Guest guest
Joan, You are doing it right! I just joined also. My husband has had similar pain and they discovered it was sciatica. Has your doctor looked into that? I'm not saying it isn't necessarily a FM issue, but it may be worth looking into. He had two blocks (steroid shots in the base of the spine), and neither worked. His pain radiates from his extreme lower back, left side near the tail bone and radiates down the side of his leg into the front of his shin. He will be going in for surgery soon and hopefully that will be the ticket! I hate it when doctors say you have to "RIDE IT OUT" - if they had that kind of pain, believe me - they wouldn't be riding much! Take care, Janet -----Original Message-----From: Joan Bobbitt Sent: Sunday, November 02, 2003 10:28 AMTo: Fibromyalgia_Support_Group Subject: Back pain Hi all, This is my third attempt to reach the group. I'm beginning to think no out loves me. I'm probably doing something wrong because I can't find them in my sent items. I have had severe left lower back pain with pain radiating down the FRONT of my left leg. I can barely walk without terrible pain. the pain management doc I go to wants me have a MRI for lumbarspondylosis and radiculopathy. He thinks it's nerve damage. He did a pain block which didn't help at all. My GP says I'll just have to ride it out. I had back problems (similar) about three years ago that took about 3 months to get over. Any ideas will be appreciated. Sincerely, Joan
Guest guest
Hey and all, Another predicament, my left leg is just giving way with no warning. Also I am having trouble getting out of bath tub. Any one had this happen. Thanks, joan Re: Back pain I had bulging disks with compression on the nerves and a laminectomy helped. The MRI is a good thing because they will see for sure what it is. My GP just told me it was sciatica, sent me for PT, told me it was old age, etc. Eventually an orthopedic surgeon who repaired torn meniscus in my right knee sent me for an MRI, and I had surgery shortly thereafter. I also changed GP's. I still have severe back pain and pains down my right let and no feeling in the front half of my left foot. The surgery was necessary, but the original pain is still here and now I guess it's FM and osteoarthritis. I had managed care when I first started having severe pain and the doctor never wanted to send anyone to a specialist. They are so ready to shove us out the door and ignore anything they can't put their finger on. I'm sorry you're having back pain, sorry you have an uncaring doctor, but glad your pain management doc is on the job. If the MRI shows problems, at least you'll have the satisfaction of saying "So THERE!" to the other doctor. in Ft Worth I have had severe left lower back pain with pain radiating down the FRONT of my left leg.
