Guest guest
I know this isn’t related to the Kaufmann cards but I recommend checking out the video on this website (verbal communication). http://www.autismtreatmentcenter.org/media:video,27,0 My son is two and he isn’t speaking full words yet. However, I’ve used some of the strategies described and I feel we are communicating on a different level from before two weeks ago. We are much closer to talking now with real words. The other strategies we tried with trained therapist haven’t shown the same results. I really encourage everyone who’s using or considering ABA for communication and functional skills to take a look at this alternative approach. I made cards with real objects stuck on them with the things he liked the most like crackers were his favourites back them and cars. So I hid/put them away or high up on the shelf so he could see them but not being able to reach them, and if he wanted them he was taught to grab the board with the cards, bring it to me and point to the object he wanted and was encourage to say the word before he got what he wanted. It was a hard work and I need it to do it with another adult being present (therapist) but it really work for him. We also played games using his hands like " This little piggy " start like this: This little finger went to market (touches his thumb) and if he doesn't you show him and direct him to do it. I learnt that our kids learn by showing them and teaching them how to do things and also by braking down the task in small parts. This little piggy stay home (touches the second finger) This little piggy had roast beef This little piggy none and this little piggy went weeeee weeee all the way home tickling him to make him laugh and find the game /song fun. You can traslate this games songs to spanish and put your own words. I speak spanish and my husband Italian, but we decided not to confuse the kids and stick with English only and that was a very wide decision as it has worked well for both kids. Another good game is " La mariposa " where he has to join his thumbs and make a mariposa flying by moving fingers and hands. You can make pictures of the things that he likes the most as this is what may motivate him to talk and ask for things. This is what worked for us back then, but I don't know if it will work for your son. My son speech is a lot better now, not 100% yet but with DMG liquid from Davinci labs and also detox and killing of bacteria/parasites that he has been on lately I have noticed further improvement in speech and socialization. He is still a sick little boy but getting there . Others may give you more new ideas about what helped their kids. I would also appreciate if you could comment on the tools that brought an important asset to your kid's verbal abilities/speech? > Thanks so much > Isa > Enviado desde mi oficina móvil BlackBerry® de Telcel >
