Guest guest
This is a web form response sent in by RbaxterEMT@... on Friday, April 21, 2000 at 01:44:19 Message: I work in a fairly small center that staffing drops down to 2 people at night. The other night I was working with a non-EMD and we were having a very busy night. I had multiple EMD calls and the night was about 4 hours from being over. My partner went on a break when recieved a private call on difficulty breathing and since it was in one of our 911 areas I started EMD. My partner just walked back into the room and I told her that I had EMD and for her to take the radios. Just as she got the radios under her control the primary EMD was ringing again. This call was a unresponsive diabetic. My partner got the address and dispatched the unit and I started to talk her thru which question to ask. ( The difficulty breathing caller had went to open the door, and nothing against the elderly but this guy was taking forever to get back to the phone! ) As we go thru the question the caller makes a statement that even if I had been on the phone I don't know if I would have caught that there was a bigger problem there. It was just a simply " Where's Kate? " As we were having him verify breathing and get the PT rolled over all this simply call went out the window. WE FOUND KATE! Kate was the caller 2 month old daughter which had been trapped under the PT for an unknown period. At this time I took the phone from my partner and started to check the baby. The baby was in cardiac arrest, I started CPR instructions and about that time the first unit got on the scene. My question to anyone who has been in a similar position is, do you think I could have done anything different?
