Guest guest
Toni is now at PRC out of the San Francisco Office and I'm sure Annette is correct, APCO would have a contact e-mail or phone number for her.
Guest guest
Rose, Might try Toni Dunne. She works extensively with the hearing impaired in Texas and has written numerous articles to APCO Magazine and was/is the chair for APCO international ADA committee. The last I knew, you could reach her at toni.dunne@... If not, then contact APCO, they might know where she can be reached. annette hallmark ahallmark@... <<snip>> Our citizen is hearing impaired and concerned that hearing impaired members of the community have no way to be notified when severe weather is approaching. She carries an alpha-numeric pager which could send her email, however, she also said many of the hearing impaired can't afford the high cost of alpha-numeric pagers. She believes there is a program in Texas that is set up to notify the hearing impaired. I did check with our county civil defense director who is not aware of any device similar to a weather radio which can notify hearing impaired of threatening weather. According to the woman I talked to this morning, there is a significant hearing impaired population in the area. She guessed that in the Mpls/St area of MN there are approximately 500,000 people who would be affected. <<snip>>
