> I have been taking Lactulose for about a year,3 packages a day. It does not

taste bad to me but the diarrhea is terrible. My ammonia level has been over a

hundred most times I had it checked. I have not had any symptoms of high ammonia

yet. Good luck.

> Well, I got the prescription filled so that's a step in the right direction. I

was reading on the printout that came with it that " This medication can also be

given rectally as an enema for liver disease " and then it goes on to give

directions on how to do it. It continues on to say that " When this drug is given

rectally for liver disease, an improevement in your mental status may occur in

as little as 2 hours, but if you are taking this medication by mouth, it may

take up to 24 to 48 hours " . Since everyone says it tastes ROTTEN I'm thinking

this may be the way to go. What I'm wondering about are the side effects: gas(

already got it ) bloating ( check ) burping, ( all the time ) stomach pain ( you

bet ) and nausea ( check again ) and wondering if taking itit does not taste bad

rectally would bypass all of that. It says to take it about the same time each

day. My ammonia level was only slightly elevated to 88 but I know any elevation

can't be a good thing. I would appreciate ANY input and sharing of anyone's

experience with this stuff...Best wishes~~~Debbie
