I don't know about national uniformity, but I've noticed Georgia's and

North Carolina's license plate responses look almost identical!

Now, see, I hate running GA and NC plates because the layout is so strange

to my eye compared to a TN plate. It is much longer and more spread out,

TN's has almost all info on 1 page, only have to flip to the 2nd page for

the address. GA and NC run 6-8 pages by comparison. It may also have to do

with the records system too....Our records software is kinda antique!

The one I like least to run, is Michigan. In order to do a driver's license

check, you have to have the full middle name, not just the initial. Our

officers don't know that, sometimes it's not on the driver's license, so

they have to go back up to the driver, ask the middle name and come back to

their car. I guess it's not really a big deal, but it just is one more

thing that takes time. Now...once you get the return, it's not hard to read

at all.

California is similar to this...If you run name/dob not using a middle

initial you get a list of people with that name/dob that you have to attempt

to chose from. Then you have to run that particular person all over

again...geez !

This reminds me- one of the better states, IMHO, is CA for out of state. I

especially like that they have it set up to return a candidate list when

there's no match. I don't know of any other state that does that for OOS

inquiries.

Well which of the following would you rather have?

A - Not On File

B - A list of near misses

At least with the list, you have something to work with. Not much you

can do with " Not On File " .

I would much rather have the list. I have found many times that people were

either giving false information (hard to believe) or just couldn't exactly

remember the spelling of their names or their date of birth. Amazingly

enough, when faced with an officer saying something like " The computer seems

to show you were born in 1980, not 1978 " they suddenly reaquire their

memory.......
