What about when an officer runs a plate and then about five minutes later,

they say: " Lincoln 56 vehicle stop, be the plate i just ran, the corner of I

St/Eleventh St. blue honda with one " .

Like I know that they have been following this vehicle for the last three

miles and they are planning on stopping it. It is ok when I am not busy and

I am the only one dispatching

(I work for a small town, population about 20,000)because I can easily

retrieve the plate, but when we are busy, they know they have to repeat the

plate because there is no way I still have it up on the screen. But there

is one officer that has made it a habit of doing this whenever he gets a

chance. He is a really nice guy and I love him to death, but he NEEDS to

stop doing that.

Alot of our officers do the same thing and it that doesn't bother me so

much, we enter every plate ran in our CAD system so it really isn't that

hard to find it again. What bothers me is a similar habit that a couple of

our officers started, they make a traffic stop and say, " Last plate I ran at

the last location I stopped a car " (translated into code " 63 with last 7 at

same 39 " ). This mostly happens with traffic officers that are working

stationary radar and stopping lots of cars. It is not a real problem for me

as a dispatcher unless it is shift change, been a while since they stopped a

car, or it is extremely busy, most of the time I know their last location.

I just don't know how repeating their location is so bothersome for them, #1

is verifies for me they haven't moved, it is repeated for all units on the

radio to hear in case they need back up later or if they want to start that

way to check on the officer, and it could be an officer safety issue. I

know alot of our officers listen to the location of other units and start

that way on their own to help them out or check on them, in this case they

don't know where the other unit is. I mean they wouldn't get in a pursuit

and say from my last location northbound, just because it was easier to say.
