Guest guest
No time to completely walk iPhone users through it, but I have an iPhone and was able to sync up my various Google Calendars to the iPhone – personal, wife, work, call schedule at hospital, etc. Got the hospital to put the call schedule on Google Calendar (G-cal), so now changes made there automatically show up when I look at them. I can access my various calendars online and turn on and off various calendars to see what conflicts are occuring. But can also look at the calendars on my iPhone -- and changes to the schedule update on the iPhone so I am never behind on changes. The iPhone doesn't allow picking Calendar A, C, F and seeing those specific calendar schedules at once -- but it does allow looking at individual calendar schedules or looking at all the calendar schedules at once with highlighted color dots reflecting each individual calendar appointment. See below. I was trying to get this setup for our call group at the hospital, but syncing with Palm/Treo type cells with G-cal is almost impossible (there is a way through syncing G-cal with Outlook calendar and then with the cell phone) and the Windows Mobile and Blackberry type cells can only sync the main G-cal -- and not the other calendars one is subscribed to. -- Sigh. Although, I guess, technically, anyone with browser capability on their Cell can surf over to the online Google Calendar and see the schedule...just not quite as slick. There may be other ways to access calendars on the iPhone, but this works for me currently. --------------------------------------------------------- For more info on syncing multiple G-cal's with your iPhone.... http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?hl=en & answer=175691 Getting Started: How to get Google Calendar on your iPhone With your iPhone (and iPod touch), you will be able to access Google Calendar in two different ways: - Browser - Sync Learn more about the options below to help you find the method that suits you and your iPhone device best. Browser - Google Calendar for mobile browsers Just like you would on a computer, simply go to http://www.google.com/calendar in the Safari web browser to access Google Calendar. There's no setup required. The mobile browser interface of Google Calendar is always in sync with the main Google Calendar server. Sync - Google Sync or CalDAV If you prefer to use your iPhone's native Calendar app, you can integrate Google Calendar with your iPhone using Google Sync. You'll get on-device alerts and over-the-air synchronization of Google Calendar to the built-in Calendar app on your iPhone. You can also sync via CalDAV on iPhone devices (includes iPod touch). You can also sync via CalDAV on iPhone devices (includes iPod touch). =========================== Of note – you can sync your e-mail, calendar, etc using the Microsoft exchange option – typical use for businesses allowing e-mail/calendar access to the main server at the company. But this doesn’t allow the multiple calendar option. You have to use the CalDAV feature to get the various calendars. Note: You can also use Google Sync to sync your Calendar and Contacts. It is possible to run CalDAV sync and Google Sync simultaneously. Requirements Syncing via CalDAV is only available for Apple devices running software version 3.0 or above. Learn more about checking the software version on your device. Getting Started To sync with your device, follow these steps: Open the Settings application on your device's home screen. Open Mail, Contacts, Calendars. Select Add Account... Select Other. Select Add CalDAV Account. Enter your account information: In the Server field, enter [ google.com ] In the Username field, enter your full Google Account or Google Apps email address. In the Password field, enter your Google Account or Google Apps password. In the Description field, enter the name you'd like to appear on the account. Select Next at the top of your screen. After you've completed setup, open the Calendar app on your device and syncing will automatically begin. By default only your primary calendar will be synced to your device. You can sync additional calendars by visiting the following page from any web browser: https://www.google.com/calendar/iphoneselect (Google Apps users can go to https://www.google.com/calendar/hosted/your_domain/iphoneselect, replacing 'your_domain' with your actual domain name.) Select the calendars you'd like to sync, and click Save. The selected calendars will display on your device at the time of the next sync. ======================= The only other quirky thing is you might need to change the server #. See the full description here… http://justanotheriphoneblog.com/wordpress/general/google-calendar-speaks-caldav-to-the-iphone I’ve read several reports where people have said it failed on the verification, and they had to manually adjust the advanced settings to enable SSL on port 443. I didn’t have to manually change any settings, so this may or may not be resolved by now. Regardless, under Advanced Settings, the “Use SSL” should be enabled, the port should say “443“, and the Account URL should read “https://www.google.com:443/calendar/dav/usernamegmail/user“. This is what my settings are set to by the automatic configuration, and are what other users are also reporting works. ============================= Here is another walk through… http://ktula.com/2009/06/17/how-to-configure-google-calendar-caldav-in-iphone-3-0/ ============================= Locke, MD
