Guest guest
I take it now and have for many months but have never had a scent change or smell like rotten eggs. I would talk to your doctor about the cause, it doesn’t seem right unless you aren’t drinking enough water. Kenda Hi, Anyone in this group taking NAC? I've been taking it and I've gotta say that it makes me stink like rotten eggs. The pills smell like sulfur. It comes out of my skin and makes me sick. My nose has a very keen sense of smell. Does anyone know what I can do to counteract this horrible odor? Anything besides perfume? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. God Bless, Kendal. Guest guest
Do the pills you take smell like sulfur? I drink a ton of water. I asked my boyfriend one night if he could smell it but he said that he couldn't! Maybe it is my nose. Also, what brand do you use. Maybe it just differs from one brand to another. Guest guest
Hi Kendal, I am taking NAC. I haven't noticed that it makes me stink, but I did notice that the pills have a decidedly sulfur odor. Anything that provides sulfur has that same smell....broccoli, cabbage, onions, eggs...it's just part of the chemical makeup of the supplement. Taking NAC doesn't make me stink--I don't think! I haven't asked anybody! I know that when I eat raw garlic, my family makes little " WHEW! " comments when they get near me. We laugh about it now. They haven't said anything since I've been taking the NAC, so I don't think it affects me that way. How much are you taking? I am taking one 750 mg cap a day. Guest guest
No, mine don’t smell like sulfur at all. It is a mixture of alpha-lipoic acid, silymarin, selenium and N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine. I take 800 mg of N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine per day. The name is Liver Guard. Kenda Do the pills you take smell like sulfur? I drink a ton of water. Guest guest
Hi, It must be me. Nobody else can smell it but my nose just picks it up. I probably could smell a fire 5 minutes before the fire alarms go off. It is annoying as it doesn't smell very pleasant. Guest guest
I was the same way. I had a very keen sense of smell. However, in my readings of medical info over the past 7 and a half years, I remember something about the heightened sense of smell being associated with an adrenal gland deficiency, or exhaustion. My heightened awareness of smell has diminished as I have healed. Now I think I am pretty much back to normal again. There have been other ladies on here who have discussed their keen sense of smell...I think one lady wrote about being able to smell a burning candle one floor down in an office building! Guest guest
if that is the case then I've had adrenal gland deficiency for as long as I can remember as I've always been this way. My sister is exactly the same. In fact more so than me. However, my other sister couldn't smell a candle burning right in front of her! glory2glory1401 <glory2glory1401@...> wrote: I was the same way. Guest guest
While heightened sense of smell can be associated with adrenal gland problems, it doesn't mean that it always is the one and only cause for a keen sense of smell. Guest guest
http://www.kitchendoctor.com/healthconditions/adrenal_exhaustion.html This is actually a great page about symptoms of adrenal exhaustion. Here is what it says about smell: Smell There are some other classic symptoms that come with longer-term pressure on the adrenals to perform. These include a heightened sense of smell. At first, one is more acutely aware of odors, all smells, pleasant and obnoxious. The sense of smell is our most basic survival instinct. When life is threatened, subtly or measurably, the mechanism governing survival is triggered. Therefore, one of the first really noticeable indications of prolonged stress is increased sensitivity to odor. This can focus predominantly on noxious odors such as petroleum fumes but it affects tolerance of perfumes and even assessment of pheromones, those mysterious exudations that repel or attract. In order, shall we say, to identify the " problem, " we have to become fussy about what we like and dislike. Interestingly, though the sense of smell can become very acute, it sometimes fails completely after a major stress, such as a terrible accident or operation. The sense will return when the adrenals are healed, but this is often a frustrating and long drawn out process. > > > > Hi, > > > > > > > > Anyone in this group taking NAC? Guest guest
I read an interesting article that said the ofactory (smell) part of the brain is adjacent to the part of the brain that triggers " fight or flight " . That's exactly how I felt when my multiple chemical sensitivity kicked in when exposed to scents that made me sick. It was very difficult to work when every ounce of me wanted to run or to tell those wearing perfume to get away from me! Rogene
