Guest guest
Bill: My first instinct was to disable the link. But then I thought, who am I kidding? He already knows what he read and can know Google it and the BBC will not disable their links. As a parent I probably would have done the same due to the age of my kids at the time, but here is the big BUT, we are living in a world where people are very violent and do bad things. This has nothing to do with AS and folks with AS do suffer from mental illness, substance abuse and domestic violence, etc. like the rest of the population. There is a man that is presenting in my community on May 18th. His story was the inspiration for the movie "Rescue." Human trafficking is alive in Oregon. Who knew? There is an International case pending in my district that the media has never covered. Unlike the movie, his daughter escaped and was sold back in by a law enforcement person and killed to make an example. It is a big issue in Oregon and elsewhere in my community due to the fact that we hold many conferences. It is a circuit out there. They say that human trafficating will out run drug trafficking in a few years. You can only sell guns and drugs once but humans, over and over again. It is a BIG issue that we don't discuss. Should we not talk about it and disable links because it upsets some folks? The majority of domestic violence is driven by the male gender to women and men, if we do not discuss it; we help to enable it by keeping silent. White privilege, racial and cultural belief systems, power and control from the dominate group have been engrained in us since the moment we were born. Social change never comes fast enough. It is a slow process. Do we keep silent? Should we ignore any bad behavior associated with someone with AS? BUT be careful, as you are talking to a survivor and Larry, my EX had issues co-morbid with AS. Some research says, opposites attract but “likes” sustain. It makes sense when you think about it in the long haul. Just me. Enjoy your week end.
