Guest guest
Hi, I am wondering if anyone here takes adrenal gland extract? On Christmas I developed a sore throat and felt like I had a viral infection. My sore throat got better but my other viral symptoms lingered too long. I felt exhausted. After a few weeks of feeling awful I was doing some adrenal research (I purchased and read " Safe Uses of Cortisol " , and re-skimmed my book " Adrenal Fatigue " ). I also tested my pupillary response and was shocked when my pupils would not stay constricted. I decided that I must have some adrenal fatigue but I was afraid to try cortef so I decided to try adrenal extract per the instructions in my Adrenal Fatigue book. I bought Adrenal Cortex Organic Glandular 250 mg by NutriCology and Licorice Root 1.35 Grams by Nature's Way. I started the Adrenal Cortex two 2-3 times a day and the licorice root one-twice a day and started feeling better almost immediately. I was having some trouble with the Adrenal Cortex causing abdominal cramping; I was chewing the capsules, I switched to just swallowing them and my cramping went away. My pupils stayed constricted after I started the adrenal cortex. After a week or so I decreased my dose to one adrenal cortex twice a day. When I started the Adrenal Extract I also increased my iron; I was taking 18 mg/day of iron as amino acid chelate (not consistently though), I increased/changed the iron to 65 mg or Elemental Iron from 325 mg of Ferrous Sulfate by Nature Made/day. I have been anemic in the past with low iron stores so I was thinking that possibly my fatigue problem was complicated by being anemic. Also, I re-developed horizontal ridges along the base of my thumbs around the time that I was feeling bad. These ridges had been gone for several months. I will not know for a few weeks if my ridges are still developing. I think I have been prone to anemia in the past because I am gluten intolerant and I used to have heavy menstrual bleeding. My bleeding is normal now and I am following a strict gluten free diet so I feel like it is unlikely that I was anemic but possible because of my history. Now it is the end of February and I am still taking the Adrenal Extract, Licorice root and extra iron. I am feeling better than I have in at least six months. I have not needed to take an afternoon nap in several weeks and my energy is back. Before my sore throat/cold I had afternoon fatigue problems. My Adrenal Fatigue book suggests taking adrenal extract for at least six months. Does anyone have any experience with adrenal extract and have any ideas for me for what my plan regarding the adrenal extract and licorice should be? I also take multiple supplements including extra C & D plus topical estradiol in olive oil, topical testosterone, vaginal progesterone for 9-12 days/month, 3-4 mg of DHEA/day, 50 mg of pregnenolone/day, and Lugol's solution 4 drops twice a day (started Lugol's about the same time as the adrenal extract). I am 45 and in peri. Thanks, Kathy
Guest guest
I don't have any experience with adrenal gland extract, but did want to alert you to licorice causing hypertension. Keep tract of your blood pressure. Val -----Original Message-----From: rhythmicliving [mailto:rhythmicliving ]On Behalf Of acaciamesquite I am wondering if anyone here takes adrenal gland extract? Guest guest
Yes, I've taken the extract, the synthetic, and the real deal. There are a number of things us thyroidy girls take for adrenal support. Isocort, which is similar to what you are taking but it's supposed to contain some actual cortisol, Cortef which is reported to be natural cortisol, and prednisoLone, which is reported to be time release synthetic cortisol. After about 2 years on prednisoLone, it appeared my adrenals were healed. I weaned down using Cortef, and then only used that as needed. Right now, I don't need it... There are other adrenal self tests that can be done along with pupil response. Blood pressure taken while lying and then while standing, and body temperature during the day. www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/adrenal-info What " I " know about adrenals is that if our bodies are stressed by illness, or hormonal and/or thyroid things, it can tax our adrenals. They can weaken and produce less cortisol, so we support them so they can rest and heal. Sometimes they heal, and sometimes they don't. Sometimes it takes a few weeks, months, years to heal...there's no set time that they heal. I think, just based on my own experiences, that we need to listen to our own bodies. To make sure I was doing the right thing by going off adrenal support, I went off it for 24hrs and did the self tests. I don't know what else to tell you about it. By the way, the iron supplement that seems to work well, according to the gals on the thyroid group I'm on, is called Feosol. I've taken that and also Iron tabs from the drug store, and the Feosol seemed to be easier on 'my' body. Hope I've helped Sam :-D (thyroidless) > Hi, > > I am wondering if anyone here takes adrenal gland extract?
