Virus - Urgent

I don't know if anyone has heard about the nasty virus going around or not. I have and it is NASTY believe me. If you get this virus on your computer you will not be able to post messages to this group so I thought that I would share what my experiences have been with this virus.

I updated my virus definitions today. It took about 5 tries because the server continued to drop my connection. My guess is because there are so many people trying to do the same thing that I was.

If you are updating the definitions and have had some updated and then the server drops your connection, reboot your machine as this will save the already downloaded definitions. You will not need to go through downloading all of the definitions again. This is good for those that are still using dial-up connections as it can be time consuming.

I went through this procedure AT LEAST five times before I was able to sucessfully have my computer updated with the latest definitions.

Also make sure that you have service pack 2 installed on your computer. They are saying that Windows 2000 is affected but it is spreading to other operating systems like XP, ME, etc.

After I downloaded the definitions, I was then able to check my mail and found several messages from unknown people saying they were from symantec and that the virus had been taken care of but you must open up a zip file that was attached. DO NOT OPEN THAT ZIP FILE. Delete it immediately!

If you aren't sure what service pack you are running, go to www.windowsupdate.com. It will automatically redirect you to the appropriate site based upon what operating system you are running. It will then analyze you system and determine what updates you need. Just update the critical one for now.

Good Luck to everyone. I have an automatic update on my machine but it still found more updates.

Be careful as this is a very nasty virus.

Remember, DO NOT open any zip files or attachments sent to you via e-mail until you know it is safe. It can really screw with you system.
