Guest guest
hi there Sorry to hear you have had so many problems with your implants - we have all been there. I also live in Florida - near Tampa. I used a local surgeon for removal and there is another in Naples, I believe which is highly recommended by Dr. Vasey and expert on implant illness. Her name is Dr. Margarite (sp?) Barnett. He very highly recommends her for the proper removal process. You may want to consult her too as it would not be that long of a drive for you. I can get you her info if you are interested as well as the info on my doc here in , Dr. Bridge, that I used for explant. I cannot believe your doctor gave you implants knowing you already had MS. What a quack - mine (implanting surgeon) was also a really big jerk. I would never recommend anyone go to him. They just do not care about anyone but themselves which I believe will come back to haunt them all one day... they cannot continue doing this knowingly to women without consequences. Good luck!! shari
Guest guest
ohhh - sorry - I was only going by Dr. Vasey's referral - I had never met doc Barnett or used her.... didn't know she pushed replacment - I wonder of he knows that? I may mention it on my next visit shari
Guest guest
hi there is near Tampa - west coast.... is about 30 min east of Tampa. I live in Valrico - just s/e of . The doc i used was about 15-20 minutes away from here I would still recommend seeing doc Vasey even tho it takes a while to get in... He is very knowledgeable on implants and why they make you sick, etc., and was a God send when I was ill and was looking for answers.... he can't really help you much physically but he was a great help to me mentally since all my drs thought I was full of crap. It helped to hear it from a specialist that "yes - implants make you sick". In fact, when I first met him he listed off all of my symptoms without even looking at my file. He really knows silicone, etc. I can see wanting them removed immediately - that is exactly what I did but you need to make sure you go where they know what they are doing. Is $$$ a big issue for you as far as removal goes? I know some are on a very tight budget and some are not. If you can afford it I have some other recommendations for going out of state also. let me know shari
Guest guest
He tried to give me plaquinil also which I did not take. I told him I did not want to take it and he was OK with it. I like him because he agrees with us about implant illness and is definitely on our side in the fight and is the most knowledgeable people I have ever met about the dangers of silicone. When MTV was taping here he came in on his vacation and sat while going through the whole filming process.... Repeating questions over and over again, etc., and never complained. It is just too bad they didn't use any of that on my segment - that made me feel pretty bad that he went through all of that and didn't ever get any airtime. He really seems to care about his patients and takes the time needed to explain the illness in detail as well as answering any questions. That is probably why the wait list for a new patient is over 6 months! It was that way two years ago when I first starting seeing him. I do not agree with some of the meds he prescribes but I think he is one of the best Doctors I have ever met - especially these days when they are rushing you in and out and all the HMO crap. It is nice to have and old school guy out there on our side love shari
Guest guest
Dr. Rotatori of Winter Park does removal correctly. We have had a few complaints about Dr. Marguerite Barnett lately, pushing replacement, etc. Lynda At 06:58 AM 8/16/2005, you wrote: >hi there > >Sorry to hear you have had so many problems with your implants - we have >all been there. Guest guest
Thanks so much, Shari. I actually made an appointment w/ Dr. Vassey when I was first investigating all of this. I was not able to get in with him until December: The end of December!! I now have much more info and KNOW I want these things out of my body, ASAP. Is on the west coast near Tampa or closer to Naples???? Guest guest
I like Doctor Vasey, but he pushed plaquenil and prednisone when I went to him, and I absolutely refuse to put those substances into my body. I detoxed and avoided those things and got better. Lynda At 08:26 AM 8/16/2005, you wrote: >hi there > > is near Tampa - west coast.... is about 30 min east of >Tampa. Guest guest
Renata hi again i am glad to hear money is not a big issue w/ you..... there are way too many victims who cannot get and explant due to $$ or insurance issues... it is very sad. If you are interested in my doc I will throw an offer out there to take you in and care for your babies.... I know how you feel as mine was just 1 1/2 at explant... My boy is 4 also. would enjoy the company. I have room so please let me know. I do not want to irritate anyone here If money is not an issue then Dr. Huang in Denver or Dr. Feng in Ohio is what I hear the best results from.... Not giving any advice as I am not a doc... I just have heard very good things from both but they are a little pricey (for good reasons I am sure) as that I why I didn't go there as my funds were very limited. My doc here was much more reasonable but not nearly as experienced but the result from him was fabulous. It is entirely up to you - let me know. I had a wonderful experience/result from my doc and he is very nice... I can send you more info if needed. I am open as listed for care and/or childcare for you - I am out of work so it isn't an issue if you come here - I have the room and I would be more than happy to help as I have been there... I can help in your aftercare as well. I have had a lot of help offered from this group and it has done me wonders... I can only return the favor as this group has saved my life. Let me know what you want to do.. Good luck shari

Guest guest
Hi Shari Then I will keep my appt. w/ Dr. Vassey. He sounds quite knowledgable and it will be refreshing to finally be validated. It's soooo frustrating! Aagghhh... Money is not the big issue here: like many of us, I've got 2 small children (3 & 6 mo) and no one to really care for them if I go out of state for surgery. I understand from Dr. Kolb (Atlanta) whom I consulted with, it's a pretty big deal & long procedure. I figured it would be quick, just slip them out & sew you up. Have any info on that? Anyway, Dr. Kolb wanted to keep me there x4 or 5 days...childcare is a big issue for me. Again, I'll consult w/ the dr. down in Coral Springs and hope & pray that he's on board w/ the whole explant thing and up to date on his technique. I do appreciate your help and let me know if you have any other info! Guest guest
I almost died from silicone being dumped into my chest, and it took me two years to even think I might live. Guest guest
renata well - as far explant info goes I can only offer my experience... To me it was not nearly as painful as when I got my implants but I went with the underarm incision and under the muscle which can be more painful... Other have had different experiences. Explanting was not as bad as I thought but I doubt you will be able to attend your class the following week as their are strict instructions as to overexerting, lifting, etc. you do not want to do anything to put a damper on your healing process so I would take it easy a few weeks. It depends on if you get a lift or not - that may make the healing longer and a little more painful - I am not sure. By the time I explanted, it was my 4th breast op so it didn't really phase me a lot but I did take it very easy as not to cause any issues. I didn't get drains and was lifting my then 1 year old.... I developed a problem in my left breast with fluid build up that had to be manually drained twice in the office. My breast actually swelled almost to the size it was with the implant in and they had to remove the fluid in the office w/ no anesthetic. I would HIGHLY recommend drain as this was not much fun, especially twice. I didn't want them but looking back it would have saved me a lot of crap not to mention the fact that after I found out the implants had been leaking I wonder if that nasty fluid was in my chest and got reabsorbed other than coming out the drains... I have long wondered about that and all the massive infections I had following my explant surgery - I had one in my chest cartilage and my ears and sinuses. I wonder if it wasn't from the mold and bacteria, etc. Anyways I would definitely say to go with the drains no matter what doc you choose. As far as costs go - they all will differ - it depends where you go, what the hospital charges are, etc., for that doctor. If they have quoted you a lift then it will be higher. The price you listed sounds around what others I have talked to have spent - some spent a little higher than your quote. My doctor was less expensive than the others... I could not afford to go out of state and had to use every dime we had and then some to get the operation. I spent about a third of that although I have no idea what his prices are now and my situation was a little different as he knew I didn't have the money, etc., and recommended another hospital a little farther away so he could give me a price break as his rental price for the OR was lower. I will say as far as an explant goes you get what you pay for so if money is no object for you I would recommend going with Feng or Huang as they seem to have the idea on implant illnesses and seem to have an awful good reputation with the ladies here (there are several other really good ones but these are some of the most mentioned off the top of my head). If I had the money back when I did it I would have used one of them as they came the highest recommended to me. Of course I am not a doctor and have not seen either of them but I have seen many results pics from their ops as well as talked with quite a few women who have loved them. It is just my opinion. My doctor was wonderful, did a great job, and even helped me win my appeal against my insurance co as upon looking at my implants after removal he agreed they were making me sick and wrote letters to them for me. He was a nice guy and reasonable priced. His specialty is reductions. I was happy with him but I would have still like to have gone to one of the experts if I had unlimited funds as I feel they are more understanding of implant illness and more experienced on enbloc removal. Again - just my opinion - other here I am sure have had wonderful experiences with doctors all over the place. good luck to you - hopefully you will get the doctor best suited for your needs and get the best results and be happy and normal again soon!! love shari
Guest guest
Hi Shari That's such a kind offer, thank you!! If push comes to shove (which I'm sure it will!) I can enlist the help of a neighbor or 2, I just want to use them as a last resort as I don't want to advertise to my neighborhood that I'm having explant surgery!!! Somehow you know how the truth evolves so in time they may figure it out! I have a hard time fibbing! Since I never discussed having implants w/ my women neighbors, I really don't feel the need to share this info!! Regardless, your offer was thoughtful but we'll manage. We have to!! Now, did I ask you about your experience w/ the explant? Like how long were you laid up and was it a more difficult and different procedure??? For some reason, I'm thinking it's a bigger deal- Am I right? I hope not. I'm planning on going to a Pilates class the next week after surgery. Is that not happening? Whatever info you've got about dr.s, I welcome it. Since we're so close and personal now, would you mind letting me know what your cost was? I was quoted from Dr. Kolb about 8200$ and she'd bill it to my ins. she said probably about 4500$ out of pocket for me. Does that sound like what you've heard? Please let me know. Again, I appreciate your help and offer! I'm up north visiting my sister and the weather is just scrumptious....I know you all are gagging w/ the heat. sorry to hear but I'll know your pain soon enought!! have a good day..........RENATA ---- halvey70@... wrote: > Renata > > hi again > > i am glad to hear money is not a big issue w/ you..... there are way too > many victims who cannot get and explant due to $$ or insurance issues... it is > very sad. > > If you are interested in my doc I will throw an offer out there to take you > in and care for your babies.... Guest guest
-Hi Shari, That was a wealth of information!! Thank you. I guess I WILL be getting drains put in. I was so not wanting them but I feel I've been warned (by you) and it makes the most sense for me to listen. I hope I didn't come off sounding snobby about the funds-I so did not mean that we CAN afford it. It's just that we HAVE to do what we have to do. Coupled w/ my husband's 28K jaw surgery that he'll be having in November is a bit scarry. As you know, I'm finding it hard to function and I just have to get better. I have not been well in like 6 years, no joke. If it's not one thing, its another w/ me. ALWAYS!!! Tell me more about this Dr. Feng....is it a woman? Seems to me I've heard of her. Do you know where she practices? What about the other doc, Huang, was it? Again, thanks for your kind words and information....it's a big help! Guest guest
Renata, You said something about your neighbors not knowing about your implants . . etc, etc, etc. I felt the same . . . Once I told friends and family about what I've gone through with implants, I've had nothing but support. Most people want to know more about what's going on . . . Why are they still on the market? etc. Unless you're dealing with a really catty person, (and who wants to be friends with them anyway?), most people won't think the worse of you. Plus, you may save some other young women from having to experience the misery you have. One reason they've gotten by with this for so long is that we did keep quiet! . . . That was a big mistake! Hugs and prayers, Rogene
