Hi Patty,

Sounds like there isn't much left for me to eat. I hate all veggies except brocolli and squash. I hate salmon, YUCH! Don't like any fruits unless they are in a blender and can't eat salad because it irritates my stomach. At one time I was buying free range as much as possible but now that I'm on a fixed income that is impossible for me.

I guess I'm just going to have to starve. If I could, I'd live on filet mignon, lobster and shrimp.

I've been a picky eater since I can remember. My Mom tried everything to get me to eat. I didn't like food at all when I was a child. She fought me about everything. I loved cake and Mcs. Refused to eat anything else. Spent many nights in my room because I just wouldn't eat. She finally gave in and off to Mcs it was! I was very stubborn though. Now my favorites are lobster, shrimp and filet. Halibut is really good too but all these things are expensive.glory2glory1401 <glory2glory1401@...> wrote:

Beth!Hey, if my meat eating hunter husband can give up meat, at least for a period time, then anybody can! Truthfully, it is a mindset, and you can learn to change your diet once you understand the benefits of cutting back on meats. Our culture has wrongly taught us to expect meat at almost every meal, and almost every day of our lives. That is just not a healthy way to eat.My husband has, in fact, experienced the benefits of detoxing to the point that he feels lethargic after a meal with meat, and almost regrets doing so. He has a routine down now, so we do enjoy meat occasionally, maybe once a week, and we eat smaller portions of it when we do eat it. We also enjoy fish alot more often. What I wanted to point out was that meats do contribute toward liver congestion, through excess uric acid. This

is the main problem in gout, a "rich man's disease", which you might want to read about. http://www.niams.nih.gov/hi/topics/gout/gout.htmThe recommendations for treatment for gout include removing meats:http://www.cjthakkar.com/gout.htmlWe tend to eat too much protein in our culture. When we eat too much protein, this places a burden on our body, so the answer lies in cutting back on our meats and going back to a more natural diet in which meats are eaten almost as a side dish. Remember how in Biblical days, to celebrate they would kill the fattened calf? They certainly didn't eat meat every day. Many cultures survive on vegetables and rice, with meat a rare treat. They are actually better off! Here are a few websites that discuss the disadvantages of eating alot of

meat.http://www.hps-online.com/foodprof4.htmhttp://www.juiceguy.com/Meat-toxic-substance-hard-to-digest.shtmlHere's a website that lists some menu ideas for a detox diet:http://www.weightlossresources.co.uk/diet/detox/plan.htmHope that helps!Patty> Hi Kathy,> > Not eating meat? Oh geez, you and Daryl make a great pair. She is pickier than you

though because she eats no meat at all! I am not sure what she eats

except sweets. Pasta, lots of pasta I guess. I feel so sorry to

hear that you guys struggle so much with diet. I have the opposite

problem. I love all kinds of foods!

Well, I am sorry life has been so difficult for you in this regard.

Hmmm, do you think it is too late to try to make some positive

changes? Maybe try one new item a day and see if you can start

learning to crave new things? It takes a totally open mind and a

willingness to experiment.

I'll tell you for sure that when you stop eating sugar and other not-

so-good for you foods, and lay off sugar for awhile, when you do go

back to eating sweetened foods,it's almost nasty because it is too

sweet! I find many sweet things utterly disgusting. I didn't used

to think this way, but over time and as I ate healthier, my taste

buds changed too.

The secret to learning to like foods good for you is to go without

bad foods for a long, long time and let your body begin to crave the

nutrients in healthy foods. Don't give in to those temptations right

away, but let your body clear out for a bit. It takes willpower. A

juice fast, ,or a water fast might help in that regard. For a time,

eat those foods that are good for you that you like (like broccoli

and squash) finding new ways to use them. And those two are great

veggies to experiment with! Wow, there's so many dishes you can

make with them.

Then you can next begin to add in totally new foods in the same

categories, like cabbage and brussel sprouts, or beets or whatever.

Try soups and stews, too. These are awesome meals, and good for

leftovers!

I admit that the sweet tooth can hit very strong at times. There

are times that I give in and totally regret it and then there are

the times that my willpower is stronger than steel, exactly because

I know that I will regret if afterwards. There is a strength that

comes from saying no to the wrong things.

Lobster, Shrimp, filet mignon....wow, you do have champagne tastes.

I totally gave up lobster and shrimp, because they are not on God's

list of clean foods. Neither is pork, that out too.

Well, Beth, I wish you the best of luck on your health effort and

with strengthening your liver! I am sure it is tough. But hey, what

is life without challenges? Boring! Maybe this can be a grand new

adventure for you and you can tell your mom all about it!

Hugs,

Patty

Well I gotta say that I cringed when I heard brussel sprouts, cabbage, beets. OMG I could just get sick on those words!

However, I'm not totally a lost cause. I can give up sweets when I'm exercising. Don't know what it is but when I am strong enough to exercise on a regular basis, it is easier for me to turn them down.

I find myself eating much better not brussel sprouts or beets, UHGGG! But I'm able to eat fruit as long as I put in a blender with some ice and soy milk.

I also LOVE pasta. Any kind of Italian food will do for me! The only meat I refuse to eat is veal. For the obvious reasons. I'm not going to get into that.

See, there is some hope for me!glory2glory1401 <glory2glory1401@...> wrote:

Well, I like raw cabbage, and I love beets and brussel sprouts, but I grew

up on a farm and we ate all those wonderful things. I do eat meat, but try

for free range. And much less than I used to eat. I love spaghetti, but

do not eat it often. When I do, I eat less of the pasta and more of other

things.

Uh oh...can you stand the thought of losing the soy milk??

Soy is not good for many of us, contrary to some health claims. Soy

is actually suppressive of thyroid function. I used to use it,

thinking it was a good substitute for dairy, but little did I know

that I wasn't doing myself any favors, and was actually putting more

stress on my under-functioning thyroid.

It's your choice, of course, but you might want to exclude it from

your diet and see if you feel better without it. I sure did!

I cannot use soy at all. And beans do not agree with me either, so I have

to use them seldom. And I am lactose intolerant to boot. I have a lot of

trouble with the promotion of soy, which is not nearly as good for us as

they say. I actually think it was the straw that broke the camel's back

with my thyroid.

Lynda

I actually use rice dream for cereal. And it is pretty good.

YOu should read the Maker's Diet. Rubin says to avoid shrimp and

lobster. The filet, if it was organic, would be acceptable once in

a while. I really think you need to look into modifying your diet

if you want to improve. Also have you been tested for gluten

antibodies? I need to avoid gluten and it has made a small

difference for me.

It is so hard to stick to a diet that is good for you when you are

eating out!! I have been to several showers, weddings, etc, and my

diet has gone out the window. Not to mention that I have always

loved milkshakes and am now somewhat addicted to Hardees handscooped

milkshakes!! Oh, the woes of summer! I am tryiong to get back to

where I am eating good again. Good luck to you.

Hi Kathy,

I’m reading the Maker’s Diet now and it is a great diet that makes so much sense. I normally eat very close to the book but not as strict. I have been on vacation for most of the summer and have strayed away from good eating habits. Tomorrow is my first day off of vacation and back to my normal eating, with a few changes from the book.

Hi Kathy,

I need the luck this time, I have fallen for Starbucks light mocha lattes and light mocha frappuccinos. Oh, how I wish I never discovered them! It started with a headache and I thought some caffeine would help — boy did it! :) I don’t like coffee at all, unless it has chocolate in it! I had Starbucks every single day in Colorado. My kids kindly offered to go get it for me — how could I resist! Today vacation is over and it’s back to good eating! Fortunately the nearest Starbucks is a good 30 minutes from where I live. Do you have Maggie Moos ice cream where you live? Since yesterday was our last day of vacation we decided to try it here for the first time. Oh my gosh was it ever the best ice cream ever!! I sound like a junkie here, I’ll take things one day at a time. :) I did order some Primal Defense and Fungal Defense today. I’m sure my candida must be out of control after all of my Starbucks cheats. I haven’t used either before so I’m anxious to see if they are better than the products I usually use.

You’re absolutely right and I don’t mind cheating every once in a while but not every day. :) I’ll let you know after I take the Primal and Fungal Defense for a while. I also need to do an oxidative stress test again soon. I have been taking Protandim for nearly two months now and need to retest so I can see if it does what they claim it does!

I don’t know, it’s so hard to say. My husband and daughter have both been sick and I didn’t catch their bugs so that could be different. I even drank after my daughter before I knew she was sick, she hadn’t told me yet. That night she was very sick with an upper respiratory infection. That is very different for me but I don’t know if it is from the Protandim or not. I have more energy, even though I have been bad at taking all of my supplements. I am good at the morning and night supplements but have been pretty bad at lunch time because I haven't been home much. I’ll have to ask Dr. Leo if these are because of the Protandim. If these are because of the Protandim, I’m sold!

Hi Kathy,

I wanted to let you know that I did my oxidative stress test and am anxiously awaiting the results! :) I was told they should be in the beginning of the week. I really hope Protandim is the miracle it was claimed to have been but won’t be surprised if it isn’t.

I’ve cut down the Starbucks but haven’t quit completely. I’d like not to like it but I still do. :)
