Damp dressings can breed bacteria and prevent proper healing. I had

the same problem of the dressings and sports bras rubbing me raw so I

removed them. I took the dressings off and cleaned the area with

rubbing alcohol, then switched to wearing soft bralettes instead of

the tight sports bras. I healed beautifully since I made that change.

It's not good that your dressings are staying damp all

day . . . Suggestion . . . first, dry them out

completely with a hair dryer . . . Then, when you

shower, take a garbage bag that has a tie top. . . Cut

the bag off so it's just long enough to cover your

bandages, then wear it while you shower. You really do

need to keep those dressings dry.

--- I try to dry them as much as possible before i go to work. But

it still seems to be damp. My sports bra is definitly not tight, so

thats good. How would i clean it if everthing is covered. I even

called the doc and they said i had to keep them on and on Aug 1st

she will take em off but put more back on. They want them totally

covered for like 3 weeks. I would love to take them off but they

said i cant. So should i just damp some Hydrogen peroxide over the

top of them you think.

> So how long did your doc have you keep the dressings on? I just

feel like i am in more pain the past few days, and i just started

work again on monday, i guess just the increase in movement could do

it.

HI I was wondering what suggestions the doctors office made? I

would call them and tell them that the damp bandages are causing

redness and irritation (even if they aren't actually). I know my

doctor let me take mine off because the tape was bothering me so

much. they wanted you to keep them on, but if you made it clear

they were really bothering you, they weren't against taking them

off. Also, I personally find hydrogen peroxide irritating to my

skin. If I were to apply that to the damp bandages, for me, it

would produce alot of irritation. If the dr. office doesn't have

any good ideas and they still insist you keep them on, ask if you

can't come in sooner to be rewrapped and also get extras so you can

wash and dry them and rewrap yourself. Just some thoughts

I only had my exterior dressings on for one week. It took about two

and a half weeks for the tape on the stitches to fall off. I felt so

much better after I removed the dressing, but I was very careful to

keep the area cleaned.

--- Well thats not fair, i would love to take them off by now. I

just worry because i am getting sharp shooting pains and the area

that the drain tube came out it is pretty sore to the touch. I am

also on my period but if this is just PMS breast pain i have never

had it before in my life.

Please do not use Peroxide !!! I had severe necrosis and my surgeon

told me to use peroxide. It will dry out your skin but also prevent

you from healing. Wounds need a very slight amount of moisture (Very

little) to heal and peroxide prevents this. It took me over a year for

my skin to grow back because of his advice. The best thing that I did

was pick up a wound cleaner called " Carraklenz " at my pharmacy/dme

supplier. It is a dermal wound cleaner that does not contain peroxide

or alcohol. As I started to heal I placed sanitary napkins in my

sports bra and changed them often as not to have to much moisture

around the wound (bacteria !!!).

Hope this helps !!

Good Luck !!
