We have HTE too. We are currently using an old version of the software

on dumb terminals, which we really like. However, due to " advancements "

in technology we will be moving to the new HTE gui CAD run on PCs.

Right now we are able to use macros to simplify and speed some

processes. For example, on a traffic stop, we just enter the unit and

location and then hit the " play " key and the one of the function keys.

The computer then creates the call as a traffic stop, inserts CA for the

license plate state, and positions the cursor in the field ready to

enter the plate. Did that make sense? We have been told that we will

not be able to do that on the new version. Is anyone using the gui

version of HTE? Do you like it? Do you like it better then the old

version? Can you use macros?

Overall I like the HTE CAD, but I don't really know any other versions,

so I can't say if its better or worse then any other. Sometimes I think

that there are obvious limitations, but it gets the job done.

Any thoughts?

Is anyone using the gui version of HTE?

Not being a real computer person, I am not sure what gui means, but we are

using HTE CAD IV. While it is better than the system (not HTE) we had

before, I saw several better software packages out there when we found HTE.

Our biggest problem has been getting some of the software gliches fixed.

I have been told that HTE will be upgrading our CAD sometime this year with

a windows version, but I have only seen a handout with pictures on it, so I

know nothing about it.

GUI = Graphical User Interface

Pretty much " Windows " and mapping functions; different GUI systems support

different features.

We are using HTE CAD IV also. We are also to get a

windows version sometime. I have been told a agency in

western Kansas is currently using the Windows version

and working out the bugs. We went from cards and a

timeclock to CAD so we have nothing to compare this

to. But I know there had to be more Dispatcher

friendly programs out there. But again it is probably

a budget issue and not what is best for people to use.

I was reading of one that they could bring up up to 20

command lines (ctrl F7 on HTE) and we only have one to

work with. But they bought a whole package for

Dispatch, records and jail. But this is what we have

to work with so I guess we will make the best of it an

use ti to the best of our ability.

We are getting HTE CAD V next month. We've been installing the codes and

such. From what I've seen, its does not seem to be user friendly. Does

anyone out here have experience with this newer version.

We have 40 to 50 units on the street plus we dispatch for 7 fire stations.
