Guest guest
This is probably staph infection, and most likely your implant has staph inside. It needs to be removed and you need antibiotic treatment. Where are you? Lynda At 02:41 AM 8/12/2005, you wrote: >Hi, >I am a 35-year-old woman who has had saline breast implants since 1997. Guest guest
Hi Lynda, Thank you for responding. How can I know if I have a staph infection in side my implant? Do you know which specialist should I consult to find out? I have had blood work done. In addition to that the discharge I mentioned was tested and it was determined that it was not caused by an infection, although I was prescribed Clindamycin, which is used to treat staph infections. I have had a mammogram and an ultrasound. All the doctors say I am fine and none of them mention that there might be a problem with my implants. I am incredibly distressed. I live in Newport Beach, CA that is really close to Los Angeles. I don't even know of a good surgeon out here. Did you have the same problem? Thanks for all your help. Sincerely, Marie --- Lynda <coss@...> wrote: --------------------------------- This is probably staph infection, and most likely your implant has staph inside. Guest guest
We have had women report this problem. Dr. Gilbert Lee in San Diego is a good plastic surgeon who can probably help you. If they gave you an antibiotic, it was an infection. They do not like to admit there are problems, but they will continue if the implant stays in. I have run a support network for 14 years and I have heard of this problem many times, almost always staph. And the implant has to be removed, not replaced (infection has to clear before anything else can be done). Guest guest
Welcome Marie, Please take this discharge seriously . . . even if the doctor doesn't! For whatever reason, doctors are slow to acknowledge an association between breast implants and infections/discharge. . . or any other illness for that matter. Please find a doctor who does take it seriously and get your implants removed en bloc (capsule removed with implant still inside). If the only symptom you are having is some discharge, you pretty lucky so far. Do you have any other issues? Hugs and prayers, Rogene
Guest guest
marie I got my saline implants in 96 and upon removal in '03 they found staph, black mold and 10 other named "animals" inside of them. Not to scare you but one had actual yellowish chunks floating inside of them... you need to get them removed as soon as possible as this stuff can make you VERY sick - I speak from experience here. I do no recall a discharge until right before my explanting - a few months of a yellowish milky looking substance. please take this very seriously and understand that most doctors will not speak of implant illness... they have lots of friends, etc that may be in the business or they just do not get it but it is very real. Just because he/she doesn't think it is a big deal doesn't mean that you shouldn't. I would get a second opinion right away! I can not believe you have a discharge like that and the doctor doesn't think it is a big deal. That is just crazy to me. If you would like, I can email you a pic of my implants.... I do not want to send it without your approval but since we both had them around the same time when this pic was taken I think you should see it. it was taken after they were removed. It may explain what is happening to you. Upon removal one of mine was missing 30cc's of fluid and BOTH were leaking due to faulty valves. one had mold growing into the valve so badly you could see it and the doc said it was actually holding the valve partially open it was so thick. if you do not want the pics coming to your email you can see them on my web page with a pic of my son and what they have done to him... after birth I breastfed him (with the implants) and he had constant infections, rashes, and very high fevers which nobody could ever explain - hives outbreaks and febrile seizures. Luckily the last year or so he has gotten much better so I am hoping all the mold or whatever has worked its way out of his system but it is very scary. it is a horrible thing to know you hurt your own child even though I didn't realize I was doing it. I will have to live with that forever. www.BreastImplantAwareness.org/shari.htm good luck shari
Guest guest
Marie, I just skimmed over some of the replies to your post and everybody here is absolutely right. Plastic surgeons, MOST of them, will NOT tell you the truth, PERIOD! They've been lying about implants for years and they're still doing it. My suggestion is for you to go to an INFECTIOUS DISEASE doctor, hopefully an honest one who WILL admit that breast implants are dangerous, and will test for staph infection or whatever. No matter what, you need to get them taken out and soon, especially if there's discharge. Of course, for that, you need a plastic surgeon but make sure you get one who will do it right, en bloc, just like everybody else mentioned, and with drains. By the way, just a brief history on me...I'm 45, born with a birth defect called Poland's Syndrome which includes a missing pectoral muscle and some ribs so I've had about 30 reconstructive plastic surgeries, mostly in the last 20 years. It's been one disaster after another and now I'm infected again, for the LAST TIME. If the next doctor I go to won't take them out and leave them out, I'll find someone who will. I'm ready to go back to the deformity I was born with so that should tell you how fed up I am and how sick I am from the implants. I have fibromyalgia with major pain all the time, I take narcotics daily, I'm on SS Disability, and it's ALL because of breast implants...ones that supposedly didn't even leak or rupture! They're dangerous...get rid of them before you get any sicker. Don't wait until you're too sick to have a normal life. I just wanted a body that didn't include wearing a prosthesis, especially at the age of 20!! Now I'm paying the price for wanting to " look " good. It's MUCH more important to " feel " good. Sorry for my ranting...I always get carried away when I start in on this subject. Good luck! Dianne in PA
Guest guest
Dianne I feel so bad about all of the problems you have had. Hopefully you will soon have a proper explant done and be on your way to feeling better. You are so right about how more important it is to feel good than to look good. The ability to enjoy life is gone when you never feel good. Do you think that you will be able to find the right person to do your explant soon? Guest guest
Dianne, I am sorry to hear of all you have suffered from a young age from your condition. I didn't know what Poland's syndrome was, but when you mentioned the part about a missing pectoral muscle, I perked right up. When I went to the Dominical Republic on a mission trip 2 years ago, I got into a conversation with one of my team mates, and found out that she also had a silicone gel implant, due to a missing muscle in her chest. It sounds like what you have. She has thyroid issues, and other implant related sounding symptoms, but while I wanted to be sensitive to her, I was able to also suggest that the implant may be causing her trouble. She never took me seriously. I can only wonder what will happen to her over time. It sounds like you have suffered so. I am so sorry! I hope it will all be over for you very soon!
