About the scanner - I think it is a good idea, depending on the person you

are listening to. I got in the bad habit of listening to the city fire

department, in case they were making surprise visits to campus and forget

to invite us. Okay, that wasn't the bad habit, the bad habit was using

their lingo (they're plain english and we're not.) My sergeant called in

to me and told me to change the scanner to the sheriff - i asked what was

going on on their channel - he said nothing it was to correct my

dispatching... oops!

" lime green with polka dots - purple in color "

If I recall correctly, the " in color " thread was just starting when I first

joined the list. Also IIRC, it was a huge pet peeve of many people. I,

however, admit to being of the " in color " bunch, because that is how I

learned it, from my tainer and from the scanner. Things tend to be passed

on by the trainers.... I heard the original purpose of giving the time at

the end of transmissions was so that on a reel to reel recorder the

transmissions can be found. How many people have digital recorders with

timestamp and still give the time? I am guilty of this one too (also I

think it sounds silly to keep saying 10-4 over and over... i just don't

like the way it sounds.) Some of the officers like it becuase they don't

have to wear a watch.. just wait for the next transmission.

I wonder what other bad habits I am " guilty " of?
