Guest guest
I just wanted to comment/suggest that the poll question asking the reason for implantion should have one more option added to the possible answers. All of my surgeries, and there have been way too many, were done because I was born with a birth defect called Poland's Syndrome. It was reconstruction of the chest wall due to a missing pectoral muscle and I've learned over the years that it's more common than I ever realized when I was younger. I also didn't notice an answer to that poll concerning breast reconstruction following mastectomy. So I just thought I'd suggest adding an answer that applies to reconstruction, whether it's congenital or from cancer. One of these days, when I find the time, I'm going to tell you all my horror story with silicone AND saline implants that has been going on now for about 20 years. Right now, I'm on SS Disability and Medicaid, at the age of 45, and I'm trying to find a doctor who will finally do an explant. I don't even care anymore if I end up going back to the deformity I grew up with. At this point, I just want some hope of getting my life back. I guess I just haven't told this group my story because it's a VERY long one. I am planning to get in touch with Deb Pettitt so I can get in on her explant study. I also need to do more research on getting involved in a suit for saline implant problems. My most recent surgery was done this April (I had a silicone implant removed and replaced with saline...I wanted the doctor to remove both implants and put nothing back but he wouldn't do it!). Well, the saline implant is infected already and I'm on antibiotics until I find someone to do an explant. By the way, I ended up having implants on both sides even though the birth defect was only on the left...the doctors convinced me back in 1985 that it was necessary. That's a start to " my story " . I'll write more again another day. Thanks for listening and for this website. Dianne in PA
Guest guest
Last I heard, Dr. Huang of Denver took Medicaid for explant. Most will not. You can find her website at: www.lindahuangmd.com BTW, I ended up on SS Disability and Medicaid from my implant also. Guest guest
Dianne, Welcome to the group! I'm so sorry you've had so many problems! . . . It makes it really hard to trust doctor's. Doesn't it? We have women in their twenties who are on SSDI and Medicaid! . . . So tragic. Such wasted lives! . . . Not to mention the health problems their children have! We have a wonderful group of ladies here. If you have any questions, ask away! . . . We want you to get well almost as much as you do! . . . You have an excellent chance of getting your life back! Hugs and prayers, Rogene
