Guest guest
Hey Bill. It's down right hot here, too, but it's actually COOLER than it was a few weeks ago when that heat wave rolled through. YIKES, that was bad! I live in Arkansas where it's 82* at this point (10AM) and there is 70% humidity, so it feels lots warmer. As for staying cool, I just try to stay indoors. I have a 2 yr. old, 6 yr. old, and 8 yr. old, so I guess that keeps me pretty busy! The older two stay outside a lot. They are out in the pool right now (it's above ground and not over their heads, so they can go out alone - I watch them through the back window). I would get in with them, but the water is pretty warm so it's not all that refreshing to me. As long as they enjoy it, though, and it helps preserve my sanity! LOL. I don't know about insurance but I know that I do not envy you! I know that my day is coming, however, all too soon!!! Stay cool! BEV. How Hot is It ny Carson use to say. How is everyone today? Has the warm weather caused any of you any trouble? I have a tendency to be stubborn and stay out in it too long. I can tell I need to ease up on staying out in this weather too long. We live in Indiana and it will be in the mid 90's today. What all do you do to keep you day occupied? I am usually messing on my computer. My kids are still out of school so I do things with them sometimes. They go back to school Aug 16 yea. My 15 year old get to learn driving when he goes back to school. Yikes I better increase my insurance. I wonder how much that will cost me. Thank goodness for AC it sure comes in handy. Bill here is something fun you might enjoy. Guest guest
Bill, just thought I would drop a note. My insurance went up about 100 when I added the teenagers. I pay 300 a month for full comp, collision and liability with a SR22. But our rates here are pretty cheap due to being mostly a rural area. Guest guest
I have a 16 year old son who has his learner's permit. I talked with my insurance agent about when my son needs to be added to the policy and he said as long as he's just learning he doesn't need to be added. When he takes his test to become a licensed driver, he would need to be added. My agent did recommend that I add back in some of the coverage that I had dropped to get my premiums lowered. It would cost about an extra $25 a month. Last week we had a couple of days where the temps hit the triple digit mark. Even without air conditioning it was cooler inside than out. Where lucky though because it does cool down at night. Yesterday we had a more normal temp. In the 80s I think but the wind was blowing all day. It was almost cold. But it was a nice change from the heat. My kids go back to school right after Labor Day. So this year, they have a late start back to school. Summer vacation has gone by so fast. Guest guest
Hi Donna I had forgotten someone had told me while is learning I won't need to increase my insurance just when he gets his drivers license. I can tell I have been spending too long outside I took the boys to get lunch and I have trouble with double vision. I have been like that for a few day's but today it seems worse. I am going to restrict myself to staying inside today, grab a movie and take it easy. Our town never opened the public pool this summer because it needs too many repairs so the kids have really missed swimming this summer. I would have hated that when I was kid I was at the pool all the time. Bill Re: How Hot is It ny Carson use to say. Guest guest
I feel a little trapped inside today also. I really don't mind the warm weather it is cheaper for us in the summer not having a heating bill. My eye trouble is giving me double vision today. When I took my boy's to get food I would often close one eye to help me see better. I don't like driving like that if something darted out in front of me I would hit it for sure. Guest guest
I never thought that my vision trouble lately could be heat related. Hmmm. I can't seem to focus on words to read and my left eye keeps "fogging up". I can see better if I close my left eye too. Crazy. TristaBill wrote: I feel a little trapped inside today also. Guest guest
Hi Bill, the heat is making me turn into a not very likeable person lately Today is not quite as bad, only 82 and the humidity has dropped some. I find myself staying in more when its like this except for a couple of hours in the late afternoon when I go outside to air out my children LOL. Inside tho I go stir crazy and find myself playing games with my 4 year old AND having tea parties. Somehow I never saw myself doing that at 28 but hey, its fun Bill wrote: How is everyone today? Guest guest
Hi, Bill//Trista - I know the feeling. I, too, feel like a prisoner. I can't go outside for too long. Here in NJ it's been pretty hot and the humidity's been pretty bad. We had a few days of relief, but not too many. The heat kills me. My legs become real heavy and the burning gets real bad. I find that the fatigue is a lot worse also. I have a 5 year old son who doesn't understand any of this and it's frustrating (for both of us) when I can't join him when my aunt takes him to the pool. Later in the day when it's a little cooler, we'll sit outside and blow bubbles or throw a frisbee - he's recently learned. I've become a master at creating car accidents with my son's Hot Wheels - he's always the police cars. It sounds silly, but it's fun and the little guys loves it. And , I never saw myself doing those things (at 31 or any age!) Hugs to all, Jamee I find myself staying in more when its like this except for a couple of hours in the late afternoon when I go outside to air out my children LOL. Guest guest
This is one of my " red flags " that something isn't right. I have never handled heat well, but now...ick! I spent the last 2 weeks, taking kids to swimming lessons, so I was in the San Diego sun for 2 hours each day. I came home and I was wiped out. Not just " Gee, I could lay down for a while " but lay-on-the-bed-drool-into-your-pillow- can't-hardly-talk " type tired that lasted 2 hours or better (and I didn't feel better when I got up either!) I feel better if I keep in a cool room. > > Bill <wj.foulke@i...> wrote: > How is everyone today? Has the warm weather caused any of you any trouble? Guest guest
Hi Trista I am sure it is the heat. My first summer with my MS I was still able to use our riding lawn mower and like I always did when I was healthy I jumped on it and mowed the yard. I still did not know at that time the heat was going to be trouble for me. I had the same trouble at that time the double vision. The more I stayed out of the heat the better it got. Guest guest
I will find my body acting up when the heat in our home gets up to about 77 you don't realize the heat is the cause until you have trouble getting around the house and you look at the thermometer in your home. When you lower the temperature you feel so much better. My MS also goes nuts when I get a fever. I don't get them very often but when I do I can't even walk at all. I can't even crawl. I always take Advil for my fever and once it lowers I can get up and move araound like nothing had happened. Bill Re: How Hot is It ny Carson use to say. I stay inside most of the time. Guest guest
I have to ditto your experiences, Bill. I am so lucky to be married to a cold nut who keeps the thermostat on 73 in the summer. But if it goes above 78, I get clumsy and cranky. And, when I have a fever, my eyes go all buggy. That's how I typically know I'm getting sick: when I can't see. Guest guest
I took my family to my parents home recently and I am sure my mom was ready to toss us out their home was so warm it was driving me nuts and I was about as cranky as I could get. I finally told my wife I had to get out of the warm house and go home. I had the AC on full a while when we drove home and it felt so good. My mother knows a warm home is not good for me. It does not help when the second I get there that is when they turn the AC on. Bill Re: How Hot is It ny Carson use to say. I stay inside most of the time. The heat kills me.
