Guest guest
Lana, earlier you posted that you were still a little confused about this, I thought I would try to clarify. Silicon (no " e " ) dioxide is the same thing as silica and it is organic. Silicone (with the " e " ) is not organic and is very different. I know that it would be very easy to confuse the two since it is a simple e ending that makes the difference. I hope that helped your confusion. Anyway, I think it is interesting that your doctors even helped you to find this alergy. I've never had a doctor bother to test me for anything! They all handed me antidepressants and told me I was mental for years. You are absolutely right that the pharmaceuticals are in this for the money and therefore have a vested interest in keeping th public sick. Guest guest
Trust me, they did not want to help me at all. I had to fight them, fire some of them and threathen them and even take my insurance company to court to get the help I needed! I also had to find all of the information and ALL of the tests to provide to our doctors. Guest guest
Well, the silicone in the implants caused the hypersensitivity to the silicone, the silica, and the silicon dioxided. Thats all I need to know about that! Thanks Lana >From: " ktitko " <ktitko@...> >Reply- > >Subject: silicon vs silicone >Date: Mon, 27 Jun 2005 17:22:27 -0000 > >Lana, earlier you posted that you were still a little confused about >this, I thought I would try to clarify. Guest guest
It's still great that you had the gumption to take them to court and find out what you needed to know!! I would like to get tested for everything but I am unable to afford anything. Because of the dreaded implants I have been unable to work for many years and now we are on our last month of Medicaid with no hope for insurance in sight. I'm just hoping that through my recovery I will be able to get back to work and possibly get benefits. It will all work out somehow. I have faith. Guest guest
Doctor Shanklin has been known to do the hypersensitivity test in the past for no charge when needed. Someone said today that he's only testing occassionlly so I don't know. Medicare paid for my tests. Guest guest
This whole silica issue is so hard to understand!! I have read more than one article and come away still confused. I just wanted to point out that while silicone is not organic, silica, which is, is still harmful in many forms. Silica in crystal form, used in sand, pottery making, mine blasting and many other operations, can still cause silicosis and scleroderma and apparently kidney disease. What is confusing is whether silica from plants, called biogenic silica, can cause harm. It would appear that it is much safer, but from what I picked up from that article, this form of silica may still be able to have tiny crystalline silica within it. There is no doubt that silica from plant sources has benefits. I think it is important to limit silicone exposures from cosmetics, drugs, lotions, and limit silica exposure from toothpaste, pottery making, ceramics, etc. Most of us aren't exposed to silica from mining. However apparently this study found one woman who suffered irreversible kidney damage from inhaling ajax (she liked the way it smelled and did this for about six months). Silica from sources such as horsetail, I think on a limited basis, for most people would probably be ok. I, myself, try not to take supplements that list silica or silicon as an additive.
