I ordered my 2010/11 flu vaccine through Sanofi -- trying to get closer to the source of the vaccine.

Last year, I used a re-distributor and my colleague down the hall got his on time -- but due to the problems with the 2009/10 season, I didn't get mine until much later.Although I think it costs a little more to go to the source.Here is my cost for 2010/11 preorder.$1,773 for 150 doses = $11.82/dose - plus shipping costs.Kids -- $12.54/dose

$1,726.50 for 150 doses = $11.51 plus shipping.While most paid a reasonable amount -- I have some insurances at 80% of charges -- Medicare paid $11.37 -- less than the cost of the vaccine - although I made up for it in admin fee (barely).One insurance paid $11.52 - barely above medicare.Here are the paid fees for flu shots from last year.

And the gov't wonders why it is so difficult to get docs to give shots.Let alone the idea that the shingles shot can't even be billed through the office or get paid for administering it in the office for medicare patients.Sigh. Locke, MD
