Guest guest
Pamela....I am so sorry that this is happening. Have you tried Medicare and/or Medicaid? Depending on the state you live it may be difficult, but schools as well as employers will require the same documentation to support your illness. You need ongoing health care somehow. absences in school I was diagnosed with Stills disease last summer. And let me tell you, this has been one of the hardest years of my life. I am currently pursuing my masters in Oriental Medicine which is an tremendously rigorous program. it takes four years after I got my associates. Anyhow, my school is extremely strict only allowing 3 miss classes during a 12 week period. One top of this we don't even get a summer break. Even though school is stressful, I know that experiencing this disease will help me become a better healer one day. I try to look at the positives, always. However, I am currently on academic probation and am in jeopardy of losing my financial aid which would be devastating and set me back until I don't know when. The only way I can bypass this and continue my education is if I obtain doctors notes for missed classes and a note from my doctor explaining my disease. Has anyone experienced something like this? I learn the matierial in class my problem is missing classes due to the days that I am not feeling well at all. On these days i feel like i have the flu and can hardly move. I don't have health insurance do I don't have a primary doctor to write the note, only documentation from the hospitals. I have an appointment at the free clinic on the 22nd. I appreciate any advice on this matter and I would also like to know more about applying for disability. Thanks! i hope everyone had a great weekend. Guest guest
It would be helpful if you could get a note from your doctor stating that you have a disability. Then you would get the benefits under the disability act. Guest guest
Hi Pamela, I am so sorry for what you are going through. It is unfortunately all too familiar to me. I am once again a full time law student. By American Bar Association Rules a student may only miss as many classes as the class has credits (3 absences for a 3 credit class, etc). Most law schools don't even follow this but I had to pick the one that did. When I was finally diagnosed with Stills after being on and off sick and constantly dropping classes it was already Jan 2010 and I should have graduated in May of 2009. I now have my back up against the wall due to another American Bar Association rule that once you start law school you have 7 yrs to complete it or you cannot complete it at all. I have until May of 2012 and I can't drop a class or have more than 3 or 4 absences. Is it possible for you to go to school part-time for a while until you get you feet under you a little better health wise? I took almost a 3 year absence from school b/c my health was so bad it wasn't worth even trying. Also, definitely get a letter stating you have a disability. Perhaps try and talk to a Dean who would hopefully be sympathetic and get some academic advice. I have a Dean of student affairs that I'm sure I annoy the heck out of but he has been so helpful the past few yrs. Someone else suggested looking into Medicare or Medicaid. Please do that! I know this is lame but... sometime the big picture can be overwhelming so just step back and take things one day at a time. Best of luck to you! D.
