,

I have experienced something similar if not the same many times. I get these

little fatty nodules right over the bones that are just above my buttock.(to

keep this in layman's terms :) ) My Rheumy told me that this happens because

there is nothing as far as what the disease wants to attack left in that area,

so it is attacking the fatty deposits. And YES this is very painful. She always

has a comment on my weight ,as when I first met her I was on the high dose

steroids and weighed 199#. Now I am down to 110#'s. You have been loosing weight

also, so I wonder if the same is happening to you.

I also completely understand you're not wanting to go back on steroids. You know

I am still on 5mg. Every time my Doc. tells me to take it up to 10mg for a week

or so, I don't do it. I tell my Doctor no. It took me so long to get off them

prior to the cellcept; in fact prior to the cellcept I could not get off them as

every time I would drop even a 1/2 mg, I would flare badly. I am sure you

remember. lol... I am terrified of them from what they have done to my body.

That in and of itself probably is not to healthy in the thinking department;

though, it is how I feel. I imagine your a bit afraid to go back on them too.

For me, I have found that these nodules do go away; it just takes a long time.

Then they come back and so on and so forth. You have to make your decision of

what you want to do, just make sure you let your Doc. know what your decision is

and discuss it with you're Rheumy or PMD whichever one you had seen. Now, if it

were a problem other than nodules; something with a major organ or something

like that, I would listen and do as told of course. I also always let my Doctor

know if I do not want to follow their orders and try it on my own first.
