Guest guest
Hi Lana. I just looked on my labels and found that the Fungal and Primal Defense products DO contain silica, but the pure Olive Leaf Extract does not. > > > Dawn, > > > > > > I am confused. Guest guest
Just to clarify for some of our members, Silica or silicon dioxide, is NOT the same thing as silicone. One is organic, and the other is inorganic. If someone has a sensitivity to silica then the pure olive leaf would be one alternative. There are many herbs and natural remedies that are produced without it. The olive leaf just happens to be one of the ingredients in the Fungal Defense product. > > > > > Dawn, > > > > > > > > > > I am confused. Guest guest
Lana, the difference is that silica is an organic compound that is beneficial to the body. It helps promote nail and hair growth and also can eliminate aluminum from the body. Silicone is an inorganic or manmade product that has no benefits to the body. They actually have different chemical make-up. You can look them up on answers.com to see the actual differences. Now there may be a reason why your doctor told you not to take the silica, but I somehow doubt that it was because he thought it was the same as silicone. At least I hope he didn't think that! > > > > > > > Dawn, > > > > > > > > > > > > > > I am confused. Guest guest
There are different types of silica, it can come from different places.... go to answers.com and put them both in to see the encyclopedic explainations. > > > > > > > Dawn, > > > > > > > > > > > > > > I am confused. Guest guest
Hi Lana, Here is some info regarding silica/silicon. From the book: Prescription for Nutritional Healing Third Edition by Phyllis A. Balch, CNC and F. Balch, M.D. Silicon Silicon is the second most abundant element on the planet (oxygen is the first). It is necessary for the formation of collagen for bones and connective tissue; for healthy nails, , skin and hair; and for calcium absorption in the early stages of bone formation. It is needed to maintain flexible arteries, and plays a major role in preventing cardiovascular diseas. Silicon counteracts the effects of aluminum on the body and is important in the prevention of Alzheimer's disease andd osteoporosis. It stimulates the immune system and inhibits the aging process in tissues. Silicon levels decrease with aging, so elderly people need larger amounts. Sources Foods that contain silicon include alfalfa, beets, brown rice, the herb horsetail, bell peppers, soybeans, leafy green vegetables, and whole grains. Comments Silicon is most commonly found in the form of silica, a compound of silicon and oxygen also known as silicon dioxide (SiO2). Two good sources of silicon are..............(irrelevant) Boron, calcium, magnesium, manganese, and potassium aid in the efficient utilization of silicon. My comments... Who knows, silicone could be derived from silicon. That's worth further investigation FOR SURE! Dawn > > > > > > > Dawn, > > > > > > > > > > > > > > I am confused.
