Every breath you take contains a few hundred ions per cubic centimeter. An ion is any small particle, molecule or atom carrying a positive or negative electrical charge due to the loss or acquisition of one or more extra electrons. Those that have lost an electron are called positive ions and those that have gained an electron are called negative ions. These electrically charged ions are known as electrostatic energy. Positive ions have lost an electron and are considered unhealthy. They are found in dust, smoke and other toxic substances. Negative ions have gained an electron and greatly assist in a body's mood, energy level and overall health. This is why negative ions are sometimes called "Vitamins of the Air." Teviron, the major fiber material of our health clothing products, has the unique capacity of always gaining electrons and thus negatively charged. This may be the easiest and most effective way to utilize this natural way to heal the body by using negative ions. How do positive ions affect humans? An excess of positive ions can have an unpleasant physical effects such as: body pains, headaches, dizziness, twitching of the eyes, nausea, fatigue, respiratory difficulties, allergies, asthma, heart and circulatory disorders. It can also have psychological side effects such as: emotional unbalance, irritation, exhaustion, apathy, listlessness, anxiety and depression. / Since German physicists Julius Elster and Hans Friedrich Geitel discovered Ions in 1899, there have been over 5000 medical and scientific studies utilizing negative ion generators. Oxford University, the U.S. Air Force, RCA Laboratories and Mercedes Benz, to name but a few sources, have found amazing results researching the use of negatively charged ions. Numerous scientific studies have established the effect of the Negatively Charged Ion Environment on the human body. The negative charged environment has the ability to stimulate the body's own healing mechanism in the case of stress and specific physical problems. Increased blood flow with the resultant increased oxygen-carrying capacity, both of which are basic to helping the body heal itself. / / Negative ions have the property to elicit changes in migration of calcium ions, which can either bring calcium ions to heal a broken bone in half the usual time, or can help move calcium away from painful, arthritic joints. These ions are also assist with the pH balance (acid/alkaline) of various body fluids. (The pH is often out of balance in conjunction with illness or abnormal conditions). Hormone production from the endocrine glands can be either increased or decreased by Negative Ion stimulation, with the altering of enzyme activity and other bio-chemical processes. Dr. Krenger found that bacteria, staphylococci, and fungi growth is halted in the presence of negative ions, which helps explain the healing effect. Dr. I. Kombluch mounted experiments at Northeastern Hospital, and at the ford Hospital in Philadelphia where he was able to report that 63% of patients suffering from hay fever or bronchial asthma "have experienced partial or total relief" from negative ion therapy. Russian studies reveal that positive (not negative) ions, on the other hand, make breathing more difficult. Negative ions neutralize positive ions. "While ionization of the air is mandatory in many European and Russian hospitals and work places, it has only recently come to light in our country with the growing problem of toxic air in our urban environments." Many of these studies are reported on the Scientific Information page. / Effects of the Ionosphere The ionosphere is a layer of charged air and particles that envelops the Earth about seventy-five miles up. The ionosphere absorbs most of the sun's harmful radiation, which protects the life on this planet. This protective belt is not only electrically charged, but is also polarized. The topside that faces outer space is negatively charged and the underside that faces the Earth is positively charged. The positively charged underside of the ionosphere and the negatively charged Earth are keys in generating and maintaining ions of both polarities. The Moon, like the Earth, is negatively charged and during the full phase, effects the balance of ions on Earth. When the Moon is full it repels the negative outer face of the ionosphere, thus pushing the underside (positively charged) closer to the Earth. This increases the number of positive ions near the Earth's surface, which has shown to affect human behavior and health. Countless scientific studies conducted worldwide have demonstrated that aberrant human behavior is most common during a full moon. This has lead to the creation of words like "lunatic" and "lunacy" to describe this behavior. / The weather changes when one atmospheric front is shoved out of the way by another. When rain clouds are involved, the rubbing of the new front against an old front commonly causes thunderstorms. This rubbing of clouds sets up a positive charge that flashes down to the negatively charged Earth as lightning. This lightning bolt destroys the overdose of positive ions by neutralizing the charge into the negatively balanced Earth. When the storm has passed, the air is fresh, clean, and invigorating due to the tranquilizing overdose of negative ions. This overdose eases tension and pressure, leaving the environment full of energy. / / How do negative ions affect humans? Negative ions counter the effects of positive ions, and provide key benefits such as: detoxification, alertness, improved concentration, better breathing, sounder sleep, tension relief and vitamin utilization. Natural sources of negatively charged ions are waterfalls, streams, and ocean waves (any splashing water). Plants' photosynthesis process also generates an abundant amount of negative ions, as well as ultraviolet sunrays. According to the book, The Ion Effect by Fred Soyka, negative ions are effective for allergies, asthma, cataract, hay fever, sinusitis, eczema, burns, emphysema, arthritis, and even as a substitute for tranquilizers. It was discovered that negative ions balance serotonin in the body, and this explains why people tend to feel more alert, stable and energized in the presence of negative ions. / Winds and Electrical Storms Although humanity has done the most to produce unhealthy ion levels, nature itself often produces overdoses of both kinds of ions. Positive ions can be created by various kinds of friction: between air masses, between the blowing air over the ground, and between the air and sand and dirt particles that have been swept up by the wind. Friction tends to knock off the negative electrons and produces an abundance of positive ions. A dusty or humid day can cause a massive overdose of positive ions because the negative ions promptly attach themselves to particles of dust, pollution, or moisture and lose their charge. The electrical energy created by this friction is also problem that has been found in many parts of the world and labeled "Witches Winds." The Foehn of central Europe, the Sharav of the Middle East (or Hamsin, as the Arabs call it), and the Santa Ana winds of Southern California are typical of this phenomena. /
