Guest guest
I have never worked in such a system, but oh I have been tempted...good to hear these frequent reminders .... See this article in the NYT -- http://www.nytimes.com/2010/03/26/health/policy/26docs.html Does NOT acknowledge the loss of autonomy; DOES point out that For patients, the transformation in medicine is a mixed blessing. Ideally, bigger health care organizations can provide better, more coordinated care. But the intimacy of longstanding doctor-patient relationships may be going the way of the house call. And for all the vaunted efficiencies of health care organizations, there are signs that the trend toward [bigger health systems] is actually a big factor in the rising cost of private health insurance. In much of the country, health systems are known by another name: monopolies. I don't want to make hamburgers; I want to treat people. I am willing to take the risk as long as I'm reasonably compensated (and that's alot less than the cardiologist making $450K/year). I will keep my autonomy. I will never never never work for another hospital again!!!!!!!!!!!!! Matt in Western PA -- Sangeetha Murthy M.D
