It has been used by my family for many, many years... & of coarse there is a horse on my 5lb tub with " since 1892 " . ingredients= Kaoln, glucose, glycerin, water, boric acid, sodium benzoate, methyl salicyate, eucalyptus oil, peppermint oil, & salicylic acid----- When we got a sliver it was heated { put on on a hot knife} & put over it & the sliver would be drawn out. If we ever stepped on a nail, which seems to always happen on a farm, it was applied the same way.. I used it with all my kids & pets & for myself...Still do, Used on the farm as a " medicated poultice dressing " sometimes the whole tub would be heated before it was put on. Guest guest
What great information! In our family, we used a Vetinary product called " Pelitol " . It had kaolin and resocinol. When they took it off the market, my dad said of course - as it was " too good. " I have been trying to replicate this ointment for years, and discovered that resocinol fell in to dis favor. No idea whether it is really dangerous or not...who's to bel. the powers that decide such things! Seems again, that our vets know more about health than do our human " doctors.
