Guest guest
Dianne, It is most likely that we who are living today are presently (but mostly unknowingly) witnessing the malthusian climax of our own species. It strikes me as odd that most folks are so intensely terrified by anything 'nuclear' that they just 'trauma out' those events=> BUT: The nuclear disasterS have been piling up and accelerating now for most of a year. At minimum, the one now vaguely referred to as '311' has spewed more deadly, mobile, unstoppable elements than the equivalent of 27 Hiroshima-sized bombs PER DAY, EACH DAY since it began - and that's the MINIMUM, excluding spikes due to more explosions and further melt-outs. That specific & huge 'disaster' is happening at the single largest pile of deadly fissionables on the entire planet - yes...happening; it will be ongoing for as long as our species can endure it's spewage. And since it exploded a couple of times, months ago - it has by now become old/stale news and is just ignored...even though it is getting WORSE rather than better and will continue to do so for decades at least. Back to your OP: Malthus was indeed right, but not in the terms he dictated; our species did indeed grow to the point of insanity, and will indeed likely do itself in by drowning in it's own poisons, BUT: Instead of mere numbers & consumption, the specific insanity was that of using the hellishly toxic energy of fission to do something as simple as boiling water; yes, that's all that 'nuclear power' really is...a huge tea kettle powered by hell itself.. Besides being uncontrollably deadly too, of course.
