Guest guest
Hi Val, What did they do about the hyperplasia? When I do the five days at 100mg of P, I always have a somewhat heavy period, but not many clots, for four to five days. But sometimes even with this, I have spotty bleeding that can last days off and on. Then it will be all clear for a long time. I'm worried, of course, and also have a doctor phobia, and haven't really had a gyn exam for some years. I did have a CAT scan of abdomen for some other reason and it said I had a small fibroid and slightly enlarged uterus, but didn't call for further examination. So I'm wondering what is the treatment for hyperplasia, and if some spotting every now and then at age 55 could indicate hyperplasia, and if using just estradiol can cause it, even with P every 3 to 4 months. It's all very scary. What I do is scary, and what the doctors would have me do is scarier. It feels as if we're on our own, you know? Gael I developed hyperplasia using 50 mg vaginal> for five days every three months. Each time, I had a bit of spotting but> nothing else. Guest guest
Val, How long is "a while"? Lynne Gillespie says that the lining will re-sorb if you just discontinue E for a while.
Guest guest
I've responded to Rosette about the hyperplasia treatment. I need to go back and get a new ultrasound. If you are having a "somewhat heavy period" with what you're doing, you're probably fine. I go off estrogen while I have a period. It takes about three days for all spotting to completely stop. That's because it takes 72 hours for the Estrogel to build back up in the fat stores. I firmly believe that women should not be using exogenous E without a yearly vaginal ultrasound. Guest guest
I'd have to re-read the PowerSurge interview before I comment on Gillespie's advice of estriol. I used sublingual tri-est and got an E2 reading of "<15." Zilch. I bled constantly with that and the oral P I was on. The bleeding was caused by inadequate E to hold the lining in the face of too much P. I believe breast pain is caused by too much P in relation to the E. It certainly is for me. Gillespie advocates the 5 days of vaginal P every three months. Most of the women on her private list do fine with that. It just wasn't enough for me. I had a stripe = 13 after 15 months of that regimen. The treatment for the hyperplasia was 200 mg Prometrium for 10 - 12 days a month. Actually, the nurse-practitioner wanted me to take Provera but I refused. Gillespie says that the lining will re-sorb if you just discontinue E for a while. I did find that estriol gave me breast pain. I took Triest for 10 years, but when I needed more estrogen, I couldn't increase due to breast pain. So when I switched to Oestrogel (plain estradiol) in May, I was able to increase to the level I needed without breast pain. I also had heavy bleeding on Tri-est, but none so far on Oestrogel, so I am not so sure that estriol is not endometrium-stimulating as well.I am sure I read somewhere that you need to use progesterone for at least 12 days to protect the endometrium lining from hyperplasia, so I would suspect that your hyperplasia was due to only using it for 5 days at a time. I would never have suffered through 12 days of P if I had thought that I could get by with only 5! Who told you that 5 days was enough, and how long did you do this before you got hyperplasia? What was your treatment for the hyperplasia? ----Rosette ..
