Guest guest
Hi, Normi. Glad you checked in. I was getting a bit concerned about you. So many of us seem to be in bad shape right now. I am doing ok, and even had guests in to dinner last night. It was so warm outside we stayed out there talking until nearly midnight. Nice to see friends, and not be totally wiped out just semi wiped out. LOL I spent most of today just vegging out. The boys were a big help yesterday and the two days before that getting the house cleaned and everything, but I did the grilling and other cooking, so did get pretty tired, especially since the temperature was in the triple digits until after 6 p.m. last night. Thank God the guests weren't due until 7. I would have been one big puddle of water if I'd had to greet them any earlier. As it was, I just stepped out of a cool shower about five minutes before they started coming to the door. Good dinner, tho. Even I enjoyed it, and I'm usually too tired of cooking to enjoy the food. Hope you are doing ok. Miss your posts. Love, MM
Guest guest
Hiya, Kimi...I'm so sorry that you were sick again. Girl, when do you get a break? HUH? Did you read where Normi is coming out to visit her parents, and will come to Santa to visit me for a little bit? I'm so happy about that. Wish you all could come, but she will probably write a book about it when she gets back home. LOL Glad you are better, sweetie. Guest guest
Hi Zina. There is a possibility that you won't need to add T4 to your Armour. My T4, even on an optimal dose of Armour with a high T3, is only 1.00 (range: .61 - 1.76.) And I don't seem to have any problems because of that--as far as I can tell. But if you do decide to supplement, you might want to wait until you think you have reached your optimal dose of Armour, and your top- level of free T3. Then you have better info to see whether you need the extra T4, and/or what difference taking the T4 makes with your already optimal amount of Armour. Guest guest
Zina, I have never understood adding T4 to Armour, just seems like an experiment and a hassle. Next time I see doc I am going to ask him if he ever does this. I am learning that it is better to treat adrenal insufficiencies, than manipulate T3 and T4. IMHO Gracia Hi All, I think my dose of Armour is good, but since my T4 went down on my last blood test (0.7 - 0.8 to 1.8), I'm wondering if I should supplement my Armour with some T4. Has anybody in this group done this? I read " Gail's Thyroid Tips " and that is what she had to do. What do you all think? Zina
Guest guest
Hi Janie, I do feel so much better on 90mg (1 1/2 grains) of Armour. I think I'm getting better as each day goes by. It sure is nice. I guess my concern is that both my T4 and T3 are not in their upper ranges. My T3 did go up on my last blood test (290 from 269; Range = 230 to 420), so that was a bonus. I can imagine now that I've upped my dose, my T3 is getting even higher. I'd like something in the range of 375 to 420. So, maybe I don't need to worry about the T4. I'm obviously converting from T4 to T3 just fine. That is also a good sign. So, do you know why my T4 is so low then? That seems so strange to me. Thanks Janie. Zina > Hi Zina. Guest guest
Hi Gracia, Yah, that was what I thought too - what a hassle that would be, to have to take yet another pill! Actually, as the days go by, I am feeling better and better. So, I'm thinking I won't need to do that. I need to stop looking at those stupid numbers and rely more on how I am feeling. There are those days, though, where I don't feel so good, and I wonder what I could do to fix that. Zina > > Zina, I have never understood adding T4 to Armour, just seems like an experiment and a hassle. Next time I see doc I am going to ask him if he ever does this. That seems so > strange to me. > > Thanks Janie. > > Zina Zina, Its because you are converting it well, thank goodness. I would rather have low t4 and good t3 than go back to high t4 and low t3...that was terrible!!!! I read somewhere that this happens to some people on armour, and some doctors don't use armour because of it. I think that is silly, and they are placing too much emphasis on T4 levels. And again, your T4 levels that you get as well as the T3 are based in Math rather than actual counts, so it could be slightly higher or lower anyway. My thought is that as long as you feel OK its alright. I guess part of it is me being SO done with tests! But part is that I feel it is necessary to stop focusing on tests as more than a guideline and just work on me.
Guest guest
< So, do you know why my T4 is so low then? That seems so > strange to me. Mine is too. It's because you are converting it, and the Armour just isn't providing as much. The ratio of T4 to T3 in Armour is 80/20. The ratio of T4 to T3 in the human thyroid is 93/7. But it hasn't been a problem for me, and may not be for you. But I will always be open to it, even if I don't use it for the time being. I also had to supplement with testosterone, which did the final trick for me. Janie
Guest guest
> < So, do you know why my T4 is so low then? That seems so > > strange to me. > .. The ratio of T4 to T3 in Armour is 80/20. > The ratio of T4 to T3 in the human thyroid is 93/7. I wish I remembered the link, but I have read about a zillion articles. There was this doc who wrote about thyroid that said he always prescribes either a synth t4 t3 combo, or synth and cytomel. His reasoning was that in patients using armour the T4 gets too low, and that what works for pigs doesn't work for humans. However... You could hold me down and stick pins in me and tickel me with a feather and use chinese water torture. You could stick bamboo shoots under my fingernails and rusty fish hooks in my eyelids. But you can't make me take synth thyroid. nooooooooooo...... In the end, there is more evidence of the PATIENTS preferring natural thyroid over synthetic for relief once the right dosage is achieved. I don't care what the docs think if I like it better. And like Janie said, other hormones are going to play a role. And Zina, if you lost weight right before getting dx'ed, get that cortisol checked. I realize that you didn't want to do the 8 am only saliva test, HOWEVER, this will test your morning free cortisol, it is different than an 8am blood test. It will show how much cortisol you have as reserve at its highest level. If it is low, they know for certain you need supplementation. (who cannot wait to hear from doc about cortisol and dhea levels...they better call today or my head is gonna spontaneously combust)
Guest guest
Hi Janie, Okay. Well, I was just concerned. I want to make sure I'm doing all I can to feel good. As I've stated in my other posts, I am feeling so much better on 90mg of Armour. I'm still contemplating going to this ND I found and, if I like him, I will ask him to run tests for my sex hormones and adrenals, just to be sure. I might not be able to do it all at once, since it will cost a lot of money, but I just want to see how all my hormones are doing. Though, like said earlier, I'm sick of being tested all the time. Thanks Janie, Zina > < So, do you know why my T4 is so low then? That seems so > > strange to me. > > Mine is too. It's because you are converting it, and the Armour just > isn't providing as much. Guest guest
Thanks Janie. I just might have to up my dose again. I'll keep doing so (slowly, of course) until I get those palps you talk about. Is that the best strategy? Guest guest
Oh , you are too funny, girl! LOL No, I don't want to take just synthetics . . . forget it. I'm totally there with you on that issue. I will NEVER give up on my Armour. Anywho, I hope your doc called you with your results today. I don't want you spontaneously combusting! Guest guest
Yes. Within a week I was screaming so much from the pain they had to sedate me in the parking lot and take me back to the hospital - this was almost a week post decomp. Then, my symptoms got 3-4x as bad as they were pre decomp, and I went back for another MRI. They took out too much whatever and my brain is slumped down. I have high pressure in my head the vast majority of the time, and feel like complete hell. I won't let the same surgeon touch me again. In fact, I don't want anyone touching me again, for now. I also have some autoimmune and a skin autoimmune disease that make further surgery a bad idea unless life just gets unbearable. ý~Olive~ " It's the soul afraid of dying that never learns to live.
