Guest guest
Hi Patty, Hi Patty, Yes, hormones are cleared by the liver so bad liver, screwy hormones. I had a pancreatitis attack two years ago and that was when my liver started to improve. My theory is that I had microscopic sludge that was keeping my liver enzymes elevated all the time. Of course the attack was no fun at all, three days in the hospital with morphine, but it was necessary to get everything moving again. My gastro wanted to pull out my gallbladder and I agreed if he could prove to me that it was diseased. He couldn’t but said it was the only treatment he could offer me and said that it might help. Many hours on the internet and I found my own treatments. I started a regimen of high levels of antioxidants, bile salts and pancreatic enzymes. The gastro was surprised when he announced that I was cured a few months later. Dr. Leu prescribed Adva Clear by Metagenics and Liver Guard on his personal label of supplements. Both work on clearing the liver but clear different pathways. I also took calcium d-glucarate to help bring my sky high progesterone back down and EstroFactors also by Metagenics to help balance estrogen and reduce menopausal symptoms. My last hormone panel showed that my DHEA was slightly low but everything else was perfect. I have been on liver supplements for three years and will likely be on them for life. I think the liver supplements are what lead to my pancreatitis attack, they forced my liver to finally dump. I had genetic testing done and detoxification is a weak area for my body so we know that even if I feel good, I really need to continue with the supplements. Kenda Kenda, This is exactly my thinking. If I ever get any symptoms of illness back at all, (which is rare), it is the brain fog, and it only comes right before my period when my hormones are all skewing this way and that....I've always thought my liver played a part in this, as the hormones are cleared by the liver. What exactly did you do to work on your sluggish liver? Did you use specific supplements to support the liver, or do specific therapies that targeted the liver, or a combination of both? Do you still have to do certain therapies to keep your liver in top shape? I've used coffee enemas and they seem to clear things out well, acting as a mild liver flush. I'm interested in what you've done. Thanks Kenda! Patty > >> > > > > > > > > > > > Opinions expressed are NOT meant to take the place of advice given by licensed > > health care professionals. Guest guest
Hi, Patty, I don’t mind at all. It’s the reason I’m here. I have to leave for appointments most of the day but I’ll get back to your questions this afternoon. I’ll dig up my genetic test info, along with the rest of the info you ask for. Kenda Good info Kenda, this is great! Leads to more questions, if you don't mind! : ) What was the genetic testing that showed that detoxification was a weak area? This might be a good place for all of us to start. I am assuming that it somehow tested the efficiency of your Phase I and Phase II detox pathways? I'd be interested in getting that done myself to see where I stand after all my coffee enemas! As for the specific liver supplements that you will be taking for life, is that the AdvaClear by Metagenics, and Liver Guard? Do you still take pancreatic enzymes? I think enzymes are vital to all of us. I use Garden of Life OmegaZyme, but I remember that the Gerson therapy (which focuses on the liver) used pancreatic enzymes in their protocol. I think the key here for all of us is paying close attention to the liver, keeping those bile ducts free from sludge and getting our livers in tip top shape. Our livers do ALL the work to help us detoxify environmental chemicals--that alone is a huge job, but when you throw all those hormones in there too, it's amazing that we can come through this mess alive! One more question....what were the bile salts you took? Guest guest
Hi Patty, The name of the testing company is Genovations. I had the DetoxiGenomic profile and Predictive Genomics for Personalized Medicine tests, ordered by Dr. Leu. The DetoxiGenomic test tests phase I and II. The test states: In Phase I detoxification, enzymes, known collectively as the cytochrome P-450 system, use oxygen to modify toxic compounds, drugs, or steroid hormones. Many toxins must undergo Phase II detoxification after a reactive site has been formed. Because there are many different toxic compounds the body might encounter, there are many variants of Phase I enzymes. Here is a small blurb from my results: Both increased and decreased activity may be harmful. Increased Phase I clearance without increased clearance in Phase II can lead to the formation of toxic intermediates that may be more toxic than the original toxin. Decreased Phase I clearance will cause toxic accumulation in the body. Adverse reactions to drugs are often due to a decreased capacity for clearing them from the system. General therapies include foods and supplements and ways to minimize risk, as well as health implications. The test shows my genetic make up for several items and what they affect. It shows snips and the positive or negative result. The test gives a website with explanations as to what each genetic result means. It is very comprehensive and not something your general lay person could understand without a doctor explaining the results or reading the website for each result. The Immunogenomic test involves the immune system and like the above test, has your genetic makeup and what it means. If a doctor has this information, it can explain what you are genetically predisposed to. Going by my tests, one would assume that I should never get breast implants because I am genetically very inflammatory and my immune system is not strong. A good thing I didn’t get them!! By using the proper supplements, I am able to avoid being sick and remain healthy. According to Dr. Leu, it is a miracle I don’t catch every bug. In theory, if you lived according to the tests, you should be able to avoid or minimize certain illness and disease. These are not tests that you would want an MD to have possession of because it would become a part of your permanent medical file and insurance companies would get their hands on it. It wouldn’t be surprising to see an insurance company place riders of coverage based on these tests for diseases you don’t even have. Yes, I will take my liver supplements for life, based on these tests. I do take pancreatitic enzymes as well and may take them for life as well. My labs have been normal for over 6 months but I don’t want to risk being where I was three years ago. The enzymes are safe and there is no reason to quit them. The bile salts I take are prescription and is called Urso. You are right, it is our liver that keeps our bodies healthy. Simply removing a breast implant from one’s body is a great start but no one should expect to regain their health with that alone. If you are sick, your body is toxic and needs to be cleaned up and detoxed. I treated with one ND for two years who was very gentle with detoxification and didn’t run tests. She didn’t help me at all but didn’t expect to because I was so toxic. I was to accept whatever I got and be thankful for it. When she moved away and I began treating with Dr. Leu, she thought his protocol sounded very harsh. Perhaps in comparison to her method it was harsh, but no change in two years of treatment isn’t acceptable. My liver enzymes remained elevated the entire time I treated with her. They are completely normal now, in fact they are great. What I love about Dr. Leu is that feeling better isn’t good enough, we all want to feel wonderful, better than we ever imagined we could and he understands that and works toward it. Just because my genes suck doesn’t mean I should live a life of illness and disease. I rarely get sick, one minor virus this winter, while those around me are dropping like flies. It isn’t because I am strong naturally, it is because I work at being healthy. I hope I didn’t confuse you more. If I can answer any further questions, ask away. : Kenda Good info Kenda, this is great!
