Hi Kathy, Thanks for the post, and doesn't it make one wonder if there are no documations of silicone and all it's chemicals being able to make us ill, even cause us death, then what is this? FDA, is not using all the research that proves the real truth, and I wonder how we can make them do so??? The truth is out there and they are paid to use the research, that only Dow and the other Manufactures has paid out to say what they want to be said, and it sure isn't in our favor. The 10 yrs. they are suggesting for research now, this is with the women as guinea pigs, just like us, and 10 yrs. is not enough for them to get as ill as we are, it takes much longer for some diseases to show up. As we all know some symptoms of diseases can be there long before a Dr. can diagnoise you with such. One is Lupus, as many of us have a positive ANA, when will we come down with lupus, or will we ever, they don't know and at the same time we are just as ill as if we already have it. Thanks Kathy for writing again, and by the way was nice to meet you, seen your picture and you ladies did a wonderful job in Washington, wish I could have been there. I would have been if I had know earlier, but my daughter had been in Ks. I didn't get on my computer as I wanted to spend time with her, don't get to see her and the baby often, so when I seen the message it was just to late to make plans. Maybe next time, if there is a next time? big hug to ya, Sam =========================================================== Subj: looking for an abstract or study posted a year or so ago Date: 6/2/2005 11:00:05 AM Eastern Standard Time From: SWEETCAROLINELV@... Posted on: Thursday, 2 June 2005, 15:26 CDThttp://www.rednova.com/news/health/153385/fungal_contamination_in_breast_implant_surgery_a_rare_preventable_complication Fungal Contamination in Breast Implant Surgery: A Rare, Preventable ComplicationAlthough apparently uncommon, fungal contamination of saline-filled breast implants is readily preventable, according to a study in the July 1 issue of The Journal of Infectious Diseases, now available online. The key steps are to use closed systems for filling the devices and to adhere to the strict moisture control and operating room ventilation standards in force at major hospitals. The potential benefits of these precautions could be considerable, since 265,832 women in the United States underwent cosmetic or reconstructive breast surgery in 2000 alone, and most received saline-filled implants. Moreover, increasing numbers of non-surgeons are performing cosmetic breast surgery in outpatient clinics, ambulatory surgery centers, or physician offices, where the risk of complications is especially likely without precautions. This study is a case in point. The investigators, n A. Kainer, MBBS, MPH, and coworkers at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention studied an outbreak in 2000-2001 that involved five women whose implants were found to contain black sediment during revision surgery for cosmetic breast augmentation; the sediment was subsequently identified as Curvularia, a fungus commonly found in soil. All women had been treated in 2000 at an ambulatory surgical facility, where an initial in-house investigation failed to find a source of contamination.Dr. Kainer and colleagues conducted an extensive investigation to identify factors contributing to the outbreak. They found that sterile saline used to fill the implants was stored directly under a portion of ceiling sheetrock that had been water-damaged a few years before and was still moist. The investigators isolated Curvularia from an air sample taken from the supply room. They also discovered that air was flowing into the operating room associated with the contamination, rather than out of it as infection control guidelines stipulate. Furthermore, sterile saline was poured into a bowl in the operating room before the patient arrived and left exposed to the air until it was drawn into a syringe and injected into the implants. The investigators concluded that "ambulatory or outpatient surgical centers need to: (1) follow hospital recommendations for regular maintenance of HVAC systems and balancing of airflow in operating rooms; (2) follow infection control guidelines; and (3) include infection control staff in all stages of planning, construction, or renovation of healthcare facilities and HVAC systems." They recommended as well that operating rooms be maintained at positive airflow pressure and that surgeons should always use closed systems to fill breast implants. On the Net:Infectious Diseases Society of America http://www.idsociety.org/ =========================================================== What Religion is Your Bra? A man walked into the ladies department of a Macy's and shyly walked up to the woman behind the counter and said, "I'd like to buy a bra for my wife. What type of bra?" asked the clerk. Type?" inquires the man, "There's more than one type? "Look around," said the saleslady, as she showed a sea of bras in every shape, size, color and material imaginable. "Actually, even with all of this variety, there are really only four types of bras to choose from. " Relieved, the man asked about the types. The salesladyreplied: "There are the Catholic, the Salvation Army, the Presbyterian, and the Baptist types. Which one would you prefer? " Now totally befuddled, the man asked about the differences between them. The Saleslady responded, "It is all really quite simple... The Catholic type supports the masses. The Salvation Army type lifts the fallen, The Presbyterian type keeps them staunch and upright, and The Baptist makes mountains out of mole hills. " Have you ever wondered why A, B, C, D, DD, E, F, G, and H are the letters used to define bra sizes? If you have wondered why, but couldn't figure out what the letters stood for, it is about time you became informed! (A} Almost Boobs... {B} Barely there. {C} Can't Complain! {D} Dang! {DD} Double dang! {E} Enormous! {F} Fake. {G} Get a Reduction. {H} Help me, I've fallen and I can't get up ! Send this to all that will appreciate it! They forgot the German bra. Holtzemfromfloppen!
