I also bloat on too much estrogen cream. I'm on a vivelle dot right now but at times it's not enough. (i.e. last week right before my period started and I was having horrible low estrogen signs) I use some cream or gel to supplement then but it's not the same for me as a nice steady supply like the dot gives me.My doctor has suggested a pill and I'm thinking about it. Don't worry that you might be out of synch if you that seems to work well for you. We're all about exploration here and very open about how different each of our bodies are too delivery systems.ByeLynn

It's simple--I know how long an estrogen dose lasts because I start

feeling the faint beginnings of a return of one or more symptoms at X

number of hours from the last dose. So I try never to forget to take

my dose before X number of hours passes.

It was probably not the patch or the gel that bloated you; it was the

dose. You won't absorb exactly the same amount of estrogen with the

various forms, even if the dose on the label says it is the same.

There

is also a difference in absorption of generics versus brand names (no

matter what " they " tell us), compounded versus manufactured, and even

between pharmacies in the case of compounded. If you adjusted your

gel

dose down a little bit, you would probably stop bloating. It is

harder

to adjust the patch. You can use a weaker patch, but it might not be

enough. There is always an " optimum " level of estradiol for each

woman

with each form of estradiol, and that optimum amount may change over

time.

Then there are the other variables, like how much, how often, and

what

kind of progesterone you were using at the time of your using the

patch

and gel. Progesterone is well known for causing bloating. Sometimes

adding just a bit more estradiol during those days helps a lot.

Another

variable, if you are/were using the Bi-est or Tri-est and not just

estradiol, is how much of the other two forms of estrogen are/were in

your dose. I found that the estriol bloated my breasts up like water-

filled balloons.

All in all, the complexity of it is enough to drive a woman crazy. I

have cut out the other two forms of estrogen and now just take

estradiol in order to eliminate some of these variables. I found out

after 9 years of using Tri-est that the body can make the other two

(estrone and estriol) from estradiol, so that was just adding another

complicating factor that I didn't need. ----Rosette
