The one she helped to write, I cannot remember the name. Maybe just

" Dolly " . She had one of our local plastic surgeons do one of the

surgeries, praised him highly, he is on our s*** list. Treated some women

VERY badly.

Yes, I read somewhere that she had breast implants but for years would not admit it. She claimed that they were real. I hate that!!! Then I read that she was having trouble with them and had them removed but had them replaced. Why isn't she as sick as the rest of us???????

Hi Beth,

You have to remember that there are numerous women out there with implants that never get sick. My sister and aunt both have silicone implants and have never been sick as a result of them. My aunt has had hers for nearly 30 years!

Kenda,

Some of the earliest implants actually were safer . ..

Shells were thicker and they didn't rupture as

readily. Then they started on the " new and improved "

models.

From what I've seen, women who take extradordinarly

good care of themselves . . . eat right and exercise

tolerate them longer . . . But even then, IMHO, sooner

or later they will have problems because the shell

will deteriorate.

Perhaps replacing them regularly would help. GT says

the stars replace theirs every five years.

But think of all the surgery that means!

Hi Rogene,

My aunt and sister don’t take care of themselves at all — not even mammograms! My sister has had her implants 10 years and I have been nagging her to at least get them checked out to be sure they aren’t leaking silicone. She feels fine, that’s all that matters.

Getting implants replaced regularly sounds like good advice to me. I’d have to wonder about all of that scar tissue being removed, or do they just leave it in surgery after surgery?

Kenda,

The capsule should be removed . . . but, if a woman

isn't symptomatic, it's probably not a big issue -

assuming the shell hasn't been shedding particles, and

the capsule isn't contaminated. . . etc. etc. etc.

Of course, the plastic surgeons try to put in ever

larger implants to make up for sagging over time. . .

Most women don't know they have the option of a lift!

I think the idea is to change them out before the

shell starts to degrade.

I've often wondered what's behind 's

problems.

Dearest Kenda:

The symptoms are so insidious that no woman would realize that her implants are a problem. I have so many women who have had their breast implants for 25 years. They usually call me to see if they should have them replaced, even though they are not having any symptoms. This is where is gets interesting, because they want to know how I am doing. When I tell them about what has happened to me, they begin to relate some of their symptoms to me. I always ask questions, such as do you have any heart problems or joint pain? They then start to tell me some of the things that have happened to them over the years. Some have had some serious heart problems and many other things that would not allow these women to think that it could be their breast implants.

Honey, I have been taking calls from women for over ten years and they have all had problems that were definitely related to implants. One lady had to have foot surgery and ended up in a wheelchair...this is when I met her. She thought that her arthritis was from old age; however, when I asked her about her implants, she said that she would have them checked...they were both ruptured! This lady has MGUS and she could end up with full-blown Multiple Myeloma. Dr. Blais has said the same thing, and he feels that most women never think that their health problems are from their ruptured breast implants. Silicone breast implants do not deflate like saline and mammograms rarely show a rupture. The other day, a girl who had saline told me that her implants are like rocks and that she is sick. The capsule could be thick, and that is why she can't tell if they have deflated. I know because I had mammograms every year and no rupture was ever detected. When the plastic surgeon went in to surgically remove my implants, they were grossly ruptured. The old Cronin had a thicker shell, and it takes longer to deteriorate, but the saline implant seemed to last longer as well; however, these women became very sick eventually. This really is a SILENT epidemic.

There will always be the indestructible woman who has implants and appears never to get sick...but I do not believe this to be true. A different approach in questioning your aunt and sister could reveal problems that they do not even realize they are having until they are made to think about them.

Kenda, thank you for staying with our group, you are a well-informed lady.

Love you....Lea

Honey, all breast implants leak from the day that they are implanted. This is well documented and if women would do more research they would be informed. It makes me so angry when I see some doctors who write letters claiming that breast implants are safe. Most all of these doctors work for the manufacturers. A few months ago, I called the director of Biochemistry here at the UofA to see if he would agree to do platinum testing on me. He did agree, because he knows my case so well. He asked if I knew that there is a high incidence of lung cancer in women who have breast implants, and that these women smoke and lead risky lifestyles. I wanted to slap his face, how dare he make such a comment. The next day he made sure that an article was published claiming that platinum was not a problem in women who have breast implants. What is going on??

Sending love to all....Lea (I'm off to see my doctor)

Hi Lea,

I guess I should have said that they both believe they are healthy and without problems. I know my sister isn’t in tune to her body at all and probably wouldn’t notice a problem if she had one. I don’t know about my aunt, she lives two thousand miles away and I rarely see her. I just know what my mom tells me about her. They all think I’m crazy because I passed on getting implants. The saddest thing to me is that my youngest sister is now seeing plastic surgeons so she can get implants too. We are not close at all and she will not listen to me. I hate to see her walk down the path so many of you have walked, it breaks my heart for her.

Honey, in all of the old research breast implants were never safe to be

implanted into the human body. Why are they still being used today? Women

who do not die from their implants live a life of suffering. Most of these

women would rather suffer than to tell anyone that they are sick. My doctor

told me this morning that it is easier to suffer than to have the medical

community come down on them. He believes that breast implants are not safe.

We asked him what sjogrens was, he replied that it is an autoimmune disease.

It causes the mucus membranes to dry up and that he feels that I do have it.

My burning tongue is really a dry cracked tongue, but to me it feels like it

is burning. In the last few months I have very cold hands and at times I'm

freezing, this is a new symptom. Sjogrens can progress and cause many

problems as time goes by...there is no cure that we know of.

This wonderful man has worked at Cross Cancer Institute for ten years and he

is a microbiologist. He is so good to me, this morning I was so angry and he

knew why...another e-mail gastro. I want to save other women from suffering

like I have....my fight will continue. " All breast implants leak from day

one. " Yes, let us keep this little group together until we make a big change

in the way that we think about our bodies.

Love you...Lea
