Guest guest
I've been out of the loop the last few weeks with the holidays and being on vacation last week and just wanted to say happy new year! My fitness " routine " will unfortunately have to take a back seat for at least a week. During our vacation last week, which was a skiing vacation, Gilbert decided to book us snowboarding lessons while Jordan went for his skiing lessons. OMG! Snowboarding is really difficult! I fell, many, many many times... always on my left buttock. The last fall I took, it hurt so bad, that I saw stars and thought I was going to faint. As the " tough " person I wanted to be, after the lesson, I decided that even though my butt was really really painful, that I wanted to put on my skiis for a few runs. The first slope (a black diamond) was so hard to do, I couldn't turn on the left. But I went back up there, a few times, decreasing the " difficulty " of the slope each time because of increasing pain in my buttock. After the day, I could still walk, but sitting had become an impossible task. I woke up yesterday even worse than the day before, with swelling of my left buttock. Today, I'm even worse, I can't sit down, can't stand up, can't lie down, but I can walk a bit. I was told a have a hematoma of my left gluteus maximus muscle, a frequent injury with beginning snowboarders. But also told that I might have to stop running or lower body weight training for at least 2 weeks On the good side of things, Jordan absolutely loved skiing (having rented his equipment, he was very sad to see it go back), and we've decided to invest in equipement for him and will be taking him skiing a few times this winter (we live 30 minutes from the biggest skiing area in the province, over 200 trails). Now that I'm confined to the bunny slopes for a few weeks, this will be a good time to teach him the fundamentals. I expect that once winter is over, he will be almost independent on skis (according to the ski instructor he had last week). He's 2 and a half years old by the way, and I'm an especially proud mommy right now. This is one fitness activity that we will be able to include as quality family time as well. Before my injury, I was able to squeeze in 4 workouts (not counting skiing days) during the week, so I was pretty proud of myself as well. Well, have a great week, and wish me luck for a quick recovery with my buttock injury (so weird to say) so I can still continue to train for the half marathon in April.
