Guest guest
Francesca and any one that wants to know about one kind of low platelet counts If your pellet counts get low to the point they become a problem believe me your docs will let you know.   Mine run low normally now but that was not always so. Normal is 150,000 to 400,000 platelets per microliter (mcL) my normal is around the mid to low 70,000 and they drop from there to the point last time and test they were in the cellar at around mid to low 30,000.  Now under normal times and people that would mean you could bleed like a stuck pig and not stop as there are not enough of them to clot the wound. In my case the wearied part is my body is destroying the platelets big time but its also making my blood really thick and clotting way to easy and fast. I am making them normally as my bone marrow test showed so it’s after that there being destroyed. I have always noticed I really never bruised and cuts never bleed much but in the last few years even that change to never bruising almost and to some cuts now never bleeding. Blood draws became a pain in the rear as I would clot a needle and even the blood in a draw tube that was half full would clot and be no good so they would have to start over again.  Like I said counts like mine normally would mean you’re a bleeder but not me but then again I never have been a normal person LOL.  Most doc start to look at things if your in the 70,000 now that is not a dangeres level just a point to start thinking if it keeps dropping or stays there when its been higher before.  in my case they have me doing an aspirin a day (baby ones) just like people with other blood problems that lead to heart attacks or strokes two thing my risk factors have been highly raised up in same with a clot forming and going to the lungs. There are other meds to use but the side effects are well like most of what we use for stills control not good and in my case once started it will be for life as there is no cure. It is also some thing you do not get a remission from but you have to live with period.  Now for a person who likes to work on things that also call for sharp tools and such this is a pain in the butt believe me. I also have to watch out for any bruising as after all  a burse is nothing more then bleeding under the skin. The point is any bleeding can lead to a clot forming, so even what most would call nothing I have to keep an eye on but more so with bruising. This is also were my foot swelling now plays into things more then just my stills and some times they change color and that is a bad worming sign for a possible clot . So far all my sonograms have been good and neg for clots but any time I start to swell with any color change I have to head to my docs or a ER to be checked out for deep clots just in case. I also have to be very careful of any surgery no matter how minor also so having stills with it is a real pain.  as I said the name is a miss leader as its not Lupus in any way and it has nothing to do with my blood not clotting and that’s the only real funny part of it all the name is so miss leading.  Anti lupus coagulant dieses what a name joke as its nothing the name suggest  Sorry for the long post and being so open about what I now have to deal with. So if you ever hear me call my self a time bomb waiting to go off this is what I mean my only hope is that I am a dud and not an atomic explosion. Hope this help some out and clears a few things up for others. This is also why I say stop worrying about what it may be and start living today because who knows what tomorrow may bring and that is why I have change a bit in my out look on stills and life with a critical illness.
