hello all,

i was reading this letter from donna and her moms comment i know how to fall,

triggered a memory, i learned this fro experience and both dads neuro and nh md

agee with me. daddy never knew he was going to fall, so he never fought it,

which is why for so many years when he fell he didnt get seriously hurt, i

noticed he primarily fell to the right so we tried to stay on his right side,

but i was told by his physician that if dad was falling and we couldnt stop him

from starting to fall, that it was probably safer for him and us to let him

fall. one he didnt realize he was falling, like a drunk doesnt get seriously

hurt in what should have been a fatal car accidnt theyjust roll with the

punches. both drs said that had we tried to prevent dad from falling once he

started taht we could seriously injure him by pulling on his arm or body and/or

seriously hurt ourselves and then we wuold be useless to daddy. after several

falls the only one that daddy got seriously hurt was when someone was trying to

keep him from falling. just a thought to pass on, hugs, sharon m

Maggie,

I really didn't think much about Mom falling until later. She had a fall on the

way to the bank on a summer day. She said she fell over the curb. Because she

was so far away, when I talked to the neighbors, they told me she had fallen

taking the garage out on time.

Then she called me one day and said she would never talk on the phone again when

it was raining because the lightening knocked her across the room.

After she came to live with me, I said to her one day, " Careful, you will fall. "

She said with much indignation, " I know how to fall. " I didn't know what to

say,. She had never told me she was falling and I went back and thought about

it after she died. I think she was falling. It might not have been all the

time. But she took another tumble with me. My son had some high steps and we

were on our way out the door and normally I would have been holding on to her.

I turn to say one more thing to my son and she kept going. She took a splat

that I was lucky she didn't break her neck.

She didn't have a lot of the PD symptoms. She did shuffle when she walked.

Hope this is helpful.

Hugs, and Happy Holidays.

Caregave for Mom (after I brought her from WI to MI) for 3 years and 4th year in

a nh.

She was almost 89 when she died in '02. No dx other than mine.

Re:

maggie,

with lbd, every patient is effected differently, every patient responds

differently to medicines. no two are alike at all.

the biggest thing about lbd that is different from many of the other dementias

is the fluctuating cognizance and ability to do something today or talk today

but not be able to talk or do in an hour or tomorrow. either way the road isnt

pleasant, good luck and hugs sharon m

Doris,

We think alike then. I question her dx of LBD also

because of lack of falls, but everything else

does match. Denial comes i guess when we don t agree

with dx. I feel my mother might have vascular

dementia only because she has suffered from vascular

problems her entire life.

But then again neurologist put things in perspective

recently when he told me. Vascular Dementia or

Lewy body dementia, she has dementia.

So sad but true

Thank you for sharing
