Dishonest Unum (was LTD benefits)

UnumProvident was profiled last year on 60 minutes and 20/20 for their

dishonest claims processes. They told an eye surgeon who had Parkinson's

that he could still do surgery and refused to pay disability. Because he bought

the policy himself, he was able to sue them for bad faith and won a large

multimillion dollar suit. Because my disability insurance was paid by my

insurer, it is covered by federal law, ERISA, and I can't sue UNUM for bad

faith.
