I get so frustrated, angry and then get aggressive. I just cannot control

it an am smashing things up in such a rage. I am so frightened that I may

attack my husband or someone else.

Ah, well, this is all so very common. The best thing I can advise you is to take a deep breath when you feel these rages coming on, and remember it's the drugs. Isn't it Cherry Plum that recommends for violent rages???

For me, the episodes were not episodic, but nearly continual for most of two years. They did get farther and farther apart, and lessened in severity. You are not alone. And you are not crazy. It's the drugs.

***I'm sorry you're having such a hard time.

Please refresh my memory about your withdrawal process. What are you

withdrawing from, when was your last reduction, and how long has it been

since that reduction? Also, are you taking any other drugs?

People in this group have been using magnesium and/or calcium quite

successfully to help themselves calm down. If my kidneys were healthy, I

would alternate 250-300 mg. of magnesium 2x a day with calcium 500 mg. 2x a

day with my last dose before bed being the calcium.

The Bach Flower Essence Cherry Plum also helps with explosiveness. Do you

have any of this?

I am sure will have more thoughts on this subject. Hang in

there--you got through the last bout, you'll get through this one!

Try not to fear your feelings. Fear is fuel. You will not get out of

control if you choose to stay in control. You've been through this before.

Just keep reminding yourself that this is all from the withdrawal. It is

not YOU, you are NOT crazy, it is all from the withdrawal.

Keep in touch--we're here!

Warmly,

Kim

Hi JoBeth,

I've struggled with that a *lot* too. What I'm doing for it is to

practice self control. What I mean by that is to stay away from any

and all people or places that *push your buttons.* Even if it means

isolating yourself for awhile.

If you go put yourself in a situation that you know will trigger the

anger, then you aren't doing yourself any favors, you only set

yourself up for failure that way.

Give yourself a " star " for every time you stay away from a triggering

person or situation.

It gets better, the more the work on it, I swear.

Hugs, we are here for you,

Melody

I have the same problem. It is very, very scary and makes you feel

horrible. One of my biggest struggles with the rages is feeling bad

about myself afterwards. I try and apologize afterward, let myself

cry, and remind myself it is not me, it is the withdrawal, and it

will end.

If I can catch the start of a rage I have been using aromatherapy to

help calm down, breathing, and trying to remove myself from the

situation. I haven't tried the Cherry Plum flower essence yet,

although I did buy it.

As for how long it will last... I have been off the drugs for three

months and it is still here. Most days it is low level agitation,

but sometimes much more irritating than that. And there are also

what I call :flare ups " where I get into full blown rages/aggressive

acts. As the months have gone by I think the rages are farther apart

and I am more able to stop them or divert them quicker. But the

underlying feeling is still present and takes effort to keep low. It

can be very exhausting. Just keep trying and telling yourself it

will get better.

Also, keeping a mood journal might help. You can track your rages

and their intensity and see your progress.

I hope this helps. Hang in there. You are not alone.
