Guest guest
Has anyone had any problems with urinary and fecal incontinence? Some is due to just a stlight prolapse, but the rest is occassional loss of sensation, that was long before the prolapse. I've been unable for so long to empty my bladder, and have spasms when I try to self-cath. But it's only now that I'm having accidents and am facing surgery. Familiar to anyone? Had problems with sensation and emptying off and on for many years, long before the prolapse. The prolapse is causing the " accidents " , with help, I believe, from the Chiari. Anyone familiar with this? Debra
Guest guest
I do. Both urinary and fecal. I don't know why yet. I assume it's Chiari. I have had urinary incontinence my whole life - the fecal is new. Olive To: chiariconnectioninternational From: debsvd74@... Guest guest
I had both bladder and bowl incontinence prior to my TC surgery. Jeff and I were golfing one summer day and I had my bowel cut loose on the 6th hole. We were planning out going out to eat after golfing. Jeff said " I suppose we have to go home first " . One of those marital moments that I'll remember for ever. Anyway, bowel and bladder incontinence are symptoms of tethered cord. You should have a lumbar MRI and have it read by a CM expert. Kathleen Diagnosed with CM/hydrocephalus 1990, decompression/shunt. Since diagnosed with craniocervical instability, Ehlers Danlos, and Tethered Cord Sydrome, surgery for everything but EDS since 1998. http://chiariconnectioninternational.com/
Guest guest
I have the oppossite, I have urinary retention and fecal retention too. I do not know if this will help in the case of incontinence, but taking 1Ž2 a pill of oxicarbamazepine every night, an antiepileptic drug, helps me a lot with the urinary retention, my bladder works almost perfect with it, and for the other one I use daily soft laxatives but these ones does not work with out the oxcarbamazepine. My doctor told me be both functions, urination and defectation and are part the autonomic nervous system, he told me I have a dysautonomy because of Chiari and SM as this autnomic nervous system is localized in the brainsteam and also in all the spinal cord and it is regulated by a group of neurotransmiters which could be regulated by antiepileptic drugs. So perhaps you can ask your doctors if antiepileptic drugs could help. Some times when I still have the some urinary retention I use ICE, I put a bag of ice directly in my belly and it helps a lot both the intestine and the bladder, they start to move properly. But as I told you I have the opposite. For me the questions to your doctors will be if antiepileptic drugs could help incontinence in the same way they help retention. I do not know. Guest guest
I have had this problem, some is bladder dysfunction due to aging. My bladder incontinence is much worse if I am constipated. My gut motility is sluggish and I cannot take Reglan. I also had many side effects from med's used for urinary incontinence.  So I work hard, fiber in my diet and exercise to keep gut functioning well. For me, early morning floor leg exercise, stretching and resistance bands seems to help get my gut and other systems started.  Over all fatigue has the most effect on my incontinence as well as other numerological problems, balance, vision, word processing... When I am well rested I do much better.  I had only minor problems with fecal incontinence, however any is nasty. These symptoms resolved after my tethered cord release. I still have residual urine, and simply wait a few minutes, in patiently for my bladder to completely empty. If I overdo and get fatigued there is not much I cannot do about urinary incontinence/frequency  except give in and rest.  Peggy To: CCI - yahoogroups <chiariconnectioninternational > Sent: Wednesday, June 20, 2012 11:47 AM Subject: incontinence  Has anyone had any problems with urinary and fecal incontinence?
