I hope no one here gets annoyed with all my questions. Seems this has been the

only place that I can get any answers :)

Does being hypo make us more susceptible to 'catching' things? Seems like I'm

just over one bug/flu and I'm on to another. I'm almost afraid to go in public

for fear that I'll catch something. A bottle of Purell is always in my

pocket/purse to wash away any germs I come in contact with. On another note...is

it possible for food allergies to react in this way...making you feel

nauseous/dizzy etc?? I'm trying to get to the bottom of why I'm always fluish.

Thanks....Val

Yes!!

Remember, your thyroid and it's hormones affect every single cell of

your body! So if your thyroid is sluggish (or if you are on T4-only

meds and not converting that T4 to T3 in an optimal way), your whole

system will be sluggish, including its ability to handle the

constant onslaught of germs and viruses that we are exposed to!!

And also note that if you are hypo (untreated or undertreated), AND

you have added stress, whether through biological means

(pregnancies, lactation, menopause, for example) or through outside

stress, it's even HARDER for your already underfunctioning thyroid

to help out with fighting germs.

That is exactly what happened to me after the birth of my second and

third sons--when I was hypo and didn't know it!! I was lactating,

and had many viral illnesses, one after the other, that culminated

in pneumonia both times!!! I sure identify with you.

This is also why it is critical to eat right, drink healthy fluids,

rest, and get the right kind of supplements. There is a file in the

FILES section to the right of these posts that shows recommendations

that I follow: It's description is " EXCELLENT recommended list of

nutritional supplements to benefit good thyroid health!! " and is

about the 5th one up from the bottom.

Hi Val,

Yes, thyroid diseases affect your immune system, so you will be more

susceptible to illnesses.

a difference?? Thanks....Val

I believe so, Val. It is my understanding that once you get all your

hormones where they should be, then your body functions fairly

normally. Am I correct Janie and and all you other well versed

and knowledgable individuals? :)

Hi Val,

Isn't that so . . . so much to learn. Well, enjoy yourself while you

are gone. :) Yep, you will have a lot to catch up on - I have a

hard time keeping up on a day-to-day basis! LOL Enjoy yourself and

we will definately miss you while you are gone.

Cheers!

> Thanks Zina. There's just so much to learn about this darn

condition. I'm leaving tomorrow to visit a friend for a week or

so...won't be back until the 27th. Guess I'll have lots of catching

up to do when I get back :)
