Guest guest
Hello, I also have a moderately enlarged fatty liver (iron overload) that was found on a ultra sound last month. I have had a high ferritin level's over 950, normal is around 25. It's been high for several years, with no diagnoses. I finally found a good hematologist (blood specialist) that diagnosed me with hereditary hemochromatosis. This is Iron overload in your organs. Once absorbed, the excess iron doesn't leave the body. Instead, it's stored in synovium (joints) and major organs such as the liver, heart, brain, pancreas, and lungs. Over many years, iron accumulates to toxic levels that can damage or even destroy an organ. The iron overload can cause many health problems, most frequently a form of diabetes that's often resistant to insulin treatment. Because of this, hereditary hemochromatosis is sometimes called " bronze diabetes. " The most effective treatment for hemochromatosis is to reduce iron in the body by phlebotomy (withdrawal of blood from the arm veins). However, this treatment increased my fatigued, so I had to postpone further treatment until I gain my strength. The hematologist reported that my high ferritin level is also a autoimmune disorder and hemochromatosis because after multiple phlebotomy's my ferritin level only dropped to 825 . My rhematologist reported that it's not autoimmune?? Any suggestions? Thanks Jack > > >Hello everyone, I hope all is well. On Friday I had to have a ultrasound on my > >liver and rest of my stomach.
