Guest guest
I was also wondering if the falls are connected to many having Parkinson disease or Parkinson type symptoms. People with Parkinson disease fall a lot if they are still walking because balance is so bad or they freeze. Vallerie
Guest guest
My mom never did get the shakes common with Parkinson Disease. She had a number of falls before she actually got hurt seriously. One of the first semi-serious ones, was when she was still using the bathroom unassisted, and lost her balance and fell backwards into her bath-tub. That time she bruised or cracked a rib, and hurt her arm some. We went through the ER at the local clinic, but other than some pain pills, there wasn't much to do. Mom tried just one of the pain pills ( I think it was prescription strength celebrex). Then she would not take any more more, because she said they made her feel " loopy " . Over time, Mom continued to walk slower and slower. That progressed into what we later called the " Lewy Shuffle " . As time went on, she leaned / bent more, and more forward, because if she tried to stand up straight, she tended to topple over backwards. We tried to do walks on her tread mill, several times a day, because once she got her feet moving, she did fine, and it kept up her strength, and seemed good for her heart and lungs, and leg circulation. Her arms held tightly on to the treadmill side rails like she was on a rocking ship. After the broken- hip falls/ hip replacements, we got back going on the tread mill, but at slower speeds. At that point I stood beside her all the time that she walked on the tread mill, ready to take all of her weight if need be. Guest guest
Hi Vallerie, I know my mother fell due to stumbling with her Parkinsons shuffle, did so once holding on to me walking down the hall in her condo, but she also fell a number of times from what I am sure was the sudden drop in BP that can occur. Both are reasons for falls with LBD. , Oakville Ont. Guest guest
Vallerie, That is something to consider. My mother's Parkinson has actually improved, i am so glad but i have no clue how it is possible. But we should all consider parkinston being a possible cause i think. Thank you for your in-put. Great help Maggie --- Vallerie Edmonds wrote: > I was also wondering if the falls are connected to > many having Parkinson disease or Parkinson type > symptoms.
