Guest guest
Meg - Good News! Thanks for posting. I got your VM last night and by the time I got it - it was after 9 PM and didn't want to call you back so late. But I see you were awake anyway... Will call you today. And I'll keep Mike in my thoughts & prayers -- it won't be fun preping him for a colonoscopy but keep reminding yourself 'this time tomorrow it will be done...' Guest guest
Meg, I am glad you don't have to go through testing until after Christmas. And remember whenever you put a LO through a test, you want to ask the MD, why do they want to test them. I was wondering why in this case, if his initial test came back negative, are they doing more testing. Testing is hard on them and they don't often know why they are doing it anyway. When you get an answer you need to ask yourself if it is worth it. Have a Happy Holiday. Hugs, Donna R Caregave for Mom (after I brought her from WI to MI) for 3 years and 4th year in a nh. Guest guest
I was wondering, too, why he needed to have the colonoscopy if whatever test he took was negative. It seems to me that if he is in bad health, to put him through that prep would be awful for him. That's the worse part of it. --- Donna Mido wrote: > Meg, > > I am glad you don't have to go through testing until > after Christmas. Guest guest
I'll answer for Meg at the moment. Her husband has diarrhea and they haven't found anything yet to figure out why. They tested him for a # of things and they've all come back negative. That is why they were about to do another test with a colonoscopy. And with the diarrhea he became severely dehydrated. And lost about 10 lbs since he was sent to the hospital. Has anyone else on the board have a LO with diarrhea issues?

Just informed me, not to bring my mother for now. They all have diarrhea and a similar virus as on the cruise ships. Just for your information. maggie --- wrote: > I'll answer for Meg at the moment. The nursing home where Mom resides was scheduled for a " Santa party " this morning, but due to the flu/colds (and the flu symptoms of diarrhea, nausea and vomiting, they had Santa go room to room rather than having the residents gather in one place and share the virus. It is not uncommon to find norovirus or rotavirus in places like nursing homes (and more recently commonly in cruise ships) where people are in close quarters. The simple precaution of hand washing is most effective in preventing the spread of the virus but few of the staff I've seen at Mom's NH wash their hands often, mostly because they are wearing gloves. I have to wonder if they realize that when they are not wearing gloves and they handle doorknobs, closet doors, Mom's light, etc., they are picking up germs and should wash their hands before they touch anything else. But then, I am one of those who is grossed out by the people in restaurants who handle money and then handle food without hand washing in between. I'd love to find a way to make germs visible to the naked eye so people could see just how much they miss. I am happy to report that at present, Mom is doing fine (crossing fingers) other than some mild nausea yesterday. I hope they find the source of Meg's husband's diarrhea soon and it would be wonderful it it were without the need for a colonoscopy. jacqui (in Puget Sound)
Guest guest
Hi and others, My mom has diarrhea issues, but they are not constant. She will go through bouts where she has near misses or actual accidents. But they don't occur every day. We have also had occult blood tests and nothing showed up. In the past she had a colonoscopy and there was also no problem that showed up. Doris wrote: I'll answer for Meg at the moment. Guest guest
I was really concerned for your husband, Meg, (thanks for your name. I also got it off ,s letter to you) he seemed awdully week after a bout with diarrhea, and then all the prep? I really worried about low potassium. Never thought about his blood being thin. Whatever the case, I am glad it wasn't done at this time. It looks to be a wonderful time planned if you and are getting together. It will be a time for winding down, and enjoying each others company. Sounds wonderful. Imogene Caregiver for my True Texas Gentleman husband of 36 years. He has LBD with Parkinsonism. Guest guest
My daughter just called and said my grandson had gotten sick tonight, so he will probably be well by Christmas, but the rest of them will probably be sick. I told her to keep him as far away from everyone else as possible. Guest guest
I've always wondered if the rubber gloves don't carry the virus from one patient to another, too. Many times I saw the nurses with rubber gloves on go from one patient to the other. Or, do the viruses/germs not " stick " to the rubber gloves? ly, I wish they could find a vaccination for the stomach virus. In ways, it is almost worse than some of the flu bugs, as it is so contagious, and sometimes comes on so quickly, they can't avoid spreading it, especially children. Then, these cruise ships with the norovirus (or whatever they call it). Wouldn't you hate to have paid a fortune for a cruise and then be sick part or all of the time? And, it would be worse on a ship, because there could be some element of seasickness aggravating it. I have heard, though, that the rotovirus only affects children, and once they have it, they don't have it anymore. At least, my daughter told me her doctor told her this after her kids had a severe bout of it several years ago. --- jacqui wrote: > M Sumner wrote: > > > The Nursing home i use for my mother for Respite. > > Just informed me, not to bring my mother for now. > > They all have diarrhea and a similar virus as > > on the cruise ships. > > The nursing home where Mom resides was scheduled for > a " Santa party " > this morning, but due to the flu/colds (and the flu > symptoms of > diarrhea, nausea and vomiting, they had Santa go > room to room rather > than having the residents gather in one place and > share the virus. > > It is not uncommon to find norovirus or rotavirus in > places like nursing > homes (and more recently commonly in cruise ships) > where people are in > close quarters. Guest guest
Doris, one thing doctors seem to overlook is some people's sensitivity to some foods, or allergies. I am very allergic, and although I may not be allergic to most foods, if I am having trouble with allergies in general, that do not show any outward symptoms, I will have a very bad stomach. I have learned all of this on my own. Doctors want to call it irritable bowel syndrome, but have no idea what is causing it, except " nerves. " I say baloney! I studied myself for a long time, and read everything I could lay my hands on, which led me to realize it is all associated with my allergies. It took doctors a long time just to realize I had allergies, because I didn't have outward signs. I was sent to an allergy specialist, and after his test, he said I was allergic to just about everything, and some very severe. Another thing is Celiac disease. A form of allergy. If a person eats gluten, (wheat is one) then they will have diarrhea. Lay off and the diarrhea subsides. My son had it bad as a baby, and still has trouble with it to this day. Just a couple of thoughts thrown in.
