Each Tiny Thread

Daybreak

in mid-November

reveals

a living sepia print.

The flashy colors are gone

but the subtle shades

of millions of oak leaves

emerge in sharp relief.

Set against the evergreens

and browning fields

the variety of muted tones

is astonishing.

Once overshadowed

by the flaming reds

and brilliant golds,

and soon to be lost

to the harsh grays

of winter,

this panoply

of warm earth tones

is a testament to individuality,

a time-limited glimpse

behind the curtain

of apparent sameness,

a beautiful reminder

that each tiny thread

is unique

and indispensable

in Mother Nature's

magnificent tapestry

of life.
