Guest guest
I just found out I'm pregnant with my first child and I'm looking for information on how Chiari might impact the pregnancy/delivery. I would love to hear stories about other pregnant Chiarians and find something I could give my doctors. I was decompressed about 15 years ago and luckily have had few symptoms since then. The only persistant issue has been headaches, but I have gotten those under control with regular massages. I would like to have natural birth if possible, so I would really like to hear from people who have tried that. Thanks! Guest guest
Congratulations, Astrid. Count me in as a Chiarian who had a successful natural birth, even while symptomatic, years before having decompression surgery. I also have sent you a private reply. Guest guest
Hi Everyone, I wasn't diagnosed until well after my girls worn born. However, 1st child was natural but the 2nd was stuck as she was trying to come out with the back of her neck. So, after 23 hours of meds for this and that (hypertension), I ended up with a C-section. She's fine today but after the C-section I was in the hospital about 3 days with my legs feeling like bricks. . I couldn't walk with out that feeling. Docs told me it was do to the anesthesia, trying to get the feeling back. It wasn't for 10 more years later another 2 female surgeries, the 2nd again with epidural block like in the C-section, Chiari kicked in for good. This is not to discourage you but just info for you or anyone else out there. I would definitely find a compassionate doctor with understand what you are going through plus the willingness to learn/educate themselves more on our discarders then they will better serve us during this time. We all need that but if you are pregnant then I think it is even more important. I just went through my daughter's first pregnancy with the child born in Jan '12. I never tested my kids for Chiari because where we live . . . I think only a couple, maybe 2-3 docs, PT don't think I'm crazy:) Hope this helps a little:) Take care, , Decompressed 2002, Detethered 2006, Lots of testing!!, EDS(2011) On-going testing for Instability, High intracranial pressure (I take Diamox and it seems to be working). Osteoporosis (2011),
Guest guest
,hi.. The epidurals certainly could have pushed you over the edge.... I am hoping that you have encouraged your girl(s? not to have epidurals...I know that I have.. Sally R... Guest guest
I have also heard a lot of negatives on spinal blocks and spinal taps. From what I understand they can push you over the edge and bring on severe symptoms. Cortney
