Guest guest
, I have hypoglycemia and you are right they often do not show up in a regular glucose test. What a person needs to have done is Glucose Tolerance Test. This makes you come in and do 4 things sometimes pregnant women get this test as well. If you do hypoglycemia this test will tell you for sure. Can also do it home with a diabetes test kit Ready! - 1. Take you fasting Glucose - 2. Drink extremely sugary drinks (like kool aid but3 times the sugar it is gross) - 3. Take blood test at 1 hour - 4. Take blood test at 2 hours - 5. Take blood test at 3 hours Your test result should start out some where within nor for a fasting most likely spike up quite a bit but could still be normally and in 1 of the next 2 hours should drop severely. Or well could be moderately as well just for an example my glucose tolerance test was as follows: - 1. 92 (70-110) - 2. 132 - (105-190) -3. 103 (70-165) -4. 44 (70-145) Now it can drop a lot sooner than in the 4th hour 44 is bad if you see it's that low drink half a can of a sugared beverage don't make yourself sick by testing alone. But I was told you could do this on your own. I hope this helps Hypoglycemia makes me crave food be very dizzy. And most people would equate me to acting like I am drunk and it can be a dangerous condition. aka Jalee One in a Million
Guest guest
Dear Jen, Thank you for your reply, Very interesting and helpful info because I have had black out spells since teenage years, never eaten right, especially breakfast, and although have some heart issues and had at least 3 complete heart work ups in my life was told with the angiogram that I have “pristine†arteries by the specialist. I do have tacacardia and many symptoms and my dizzy spells just come and go over the years for periods of months, weeks or days and have never been able to be diagnosed. Two times in my life I actually passed out. The last was last October and I broke and displace my ankle bone badly! It took months to heal and is now very affected by my arthritis with swelling, like any other injuries we tend to have problems with resulting after Still’s. I did just order a test meter on the free site I use and will tell my doctor to have me tested for sure just to make sure as well to check that my organs are ok and possible medications that may be aggravating it is that is the diagnoses. I will use the meter when it happens again at home as well. I’m pretty convinced that it all leads to this diagnoses because all the symptoms match up since the age of sixteen with the dizziness and some of the heart issues I have. Good day and thank you again, From: Lee Subject: Re: Possible Hypoglycemia? , I have hypoglycemia and you are right they often do not show up in a regular glucose test. Guest guest
, You are more than welcome, for once it is something I have had the run in with many times throughout my life. Still's is all new to me...lol However I have done reading up on it since I found out I have it. One other test that may be worth looking into is Insulin Resistance. You would actually have the insulin tested in your blood instead of Glucose. I don't if I remember exactly however the whole " Fatty Liver " discussion I started well that can be caused by Insulin Resistance. (My internist (now) refuses to test this in my blood says its unnecessary but now that I know I have fatty liver I want to double check that my high insulin hasn't come back) I've lost weight & exercise, quit smoking 3 1/2 yrs ago. So technically I should be okay but sometimes if you have a metabolic disorder it is just going to happen anyways. I have only passed out completely " black out " once. It was the summer before last and it was hot and I was helping out on the farm picking 6ft tall weeds from around the trees in wind rows. Since the weeds were 6ft tall when I passed out no one even knew...however I fell on very soft ground and didn't get hurt at all. I'm sorry to hear you did. I know all about how Still's takes over after you have hurt a part of your body. I wish I would of known about it sooner my Right hand is badly affected no arthritis showing yet but it is very painful and always inflamed no matter what kind of shots or meds I take. aka Jalee One in a Million
Guest guest
and the rest of ya all. my mom deals with it but not on a major scale but then again she also normally knows its coming by how she feels and takes care of it right away. This is what she dose 1) Drink a glass of water as dehydration can also come with it 2) If you eat some thing sweet that will give a fast pick up but also will make you drop fast when it burns off so do the next step also. 3) Eat some thing with protein like cheese peanut butter ECT. By the time it starts to work the sweet stuff should be ending so it will keep you more even keeled 4) eating a well balanced diet and on a time schedule works better to controlling it then most things so get used to eating at set times during a day like dinner at 6 not between 6 and 9 pm. 5) Try to only use sweets if you have to as we all know what they can do to us also (hint hint) If you think about it it's like diabetes but in reverse kind of but the same habits like eating well and on time will help control it just as it can help with a diabetic. Now remember this is all based only on what has worked for my mom with her hpoyglsimic problem and for my dad and his diabetes when he was a live So hugs and good luck ya all The Redneck Marty G. ________________________________ Subject: Possible Hypoglycemia? Guest guest
Marty is right, only use the sugar if you are very low as it will cause you too quickly go up and then crash again. As Marty said Hypoglycemia is kinda like reverse diabetes but still have to have the same diet, It's not a free pass to eat all the sugar you want like I thought it was before i was diagnosed...lol If anyone does end with this the best is to avoid the lows if at all possible. Eating Protein really helps and many small meals. It's not the end of the world if a person has this just a change of lifestyle it can also lead to Type 2 Diabetes later on. So it is a good thing to be aware of. If you get dizzy often a small protein snack will stop aka Jalee One in a Million
