Guest guest
Hello again, I am on a trial of Diamox for slightly elevated spinal fluid pressure before deciding on a shunt procedure. Luckily, I am not allergic to it. I say that because I tend to be allergic to just about everything! Question - can anyone give me feedback with their experiences with this drug. . ..whether it worked for them, side effects.. . . etc. If it did work, did it continue for a long period of time or did it stop after awhile? So far, I'm just exhausted after I take it and fall asleep quickly with a little stomach upset but not hives or rash, allergic symptoms. Thanks guys,
Guest guest
I am also allergic to most everything but was good with Diamox. I was put on a dose of 2-4 250mg tabs up to 4 times a day. It did not work for me prior to surgery. Was put back on it 6 weeks after decompression. Took the highest dose I could for a few weeks before I noticed a difference, but it was a life saver after that! The only real side effect I had was tingling in my extremities and face and a change in taste buds...carbonated drinks taste horrible when on it. I took only as much as needed after it started working and took it off and on as needed for almost 2 years. The last time I took it, I was unable to stay awake for more than an hour or two in 24 hours and started having difficulty breathing. So, I quit. The side effects went away and I haven't taken it since. Thankfully I was to the point in my healing that I haven't needed it since then. My uncle tried it without having surgery and it cured all his symptoms! My surgeon told me that he has had several patients that have been on it like 10 years and have avoided surgery. That is why he tried it with me. But he said that each person's body responds to the drug differently so it doesn't work for some. If you're not seeing improvement right now, I would suggest giving it 6 weeks at the highest dose before you say it's not working. Hope that helps some. Have a blessed day, Cortney
Guest guest
Hi , Thank you for telling me about your experience. I started it at the same time I have come down with the same sinus cold virus my old family has had. I'm definitely going to give it some time. I was allergic to the inactivated version of the Flu and so, of course the first year I try the flu shot- I get really sick with 2 sinus infections. Thanks again! .
