Guest guest
HI, I am very much wondering about the tonsils wrapped around the brainstem, because my son had a report of his mri-mra stateing his tonsils are seen wrapped around the brainstem. The report at first didn't note this and just said various things about his vein varient and that his chiari cant be really a chiari as it was a 4mm. A small 5-6 ml cyst was noted and said to look smaller than on the previoius scan. I went back and asked for a relook at his scans because of his symptoms and his sister situation, when we lost her in 2000 suddenlyi in ER to similar symptoms and she had chiari that the report stated compression at the brainstem. So this is when they state the tonsils are seen wrapped around the brain stem and he has a chiari 0. We had a dr in southern cal who is supposed to be wellversed in chiari state on his report he dosent think he sees a chiari and that if anything is mentioned about a brain problem, he wont get insurance. Well my opinion is dont worry about that just let us know the issue but he would respond to questions except to basicly blow off the questions and deny a problem existed. My son has had symptoms at age 14 after playing a football game with friends (just a bunch of kids playing and were not on a team), of headache, couldnt walk or talk correctly, felt wobblely, numbness of his mouth. This lastled for 3 hrs. We were told if this medication they gave him helped it was only a migraine. I dont know for sure if it helped but he felt better after about 3 hrs regardless and we went home. He had another episode few months later. Off and on he will not feel well with headaches and few monthes ago he said he felt like his hand was heavy and confused like and weak. He is 26 and was having a lot of stress at his first teaching job. In my opinion i have a qreat concern about him!!! he was going to ask for a scan but then he began to feel beter and said he thinks it was stress. I have tried,to get him to still ask for it but i know he wants to not deal with it now. He just jokes around when i ask him to get the new mri mra. Im concerned that a problem will come up suddenly and it will be to late. I feel on edge and that dr is why, because he ignored it in the first place. I am seeing about Chiari Institute with two of my other daughters now and want him to go but he makes excuses. I wish he would at least get a new scan and ill take it with me. I read the post and had to respond with my thoughts. Joyce
Guest guest
Thank you Joyce for your reply! I don't think it's a small issue. It's been noted that this alone can cause pain, the tonsils wrapped around the brainstem. My own thoughts (no medical degree here) is that if something is wrapped around the brainstem and then there is some form of pressure; you can have events where you don't feel good! My episodes tend to involve an almost syncope or vagus nerve response for no reason, nausea, legs go out. .need to lie down, Coke settles my stomach (wish it didn't), headache of course, shouder pain, then bad posture and the list goes on. . . But, I now have hope after seeing another specialist in land who is willing to help and work with all my problems:) > > HI, > I am very much wondering about the tonsils wrapped around the brainstem, because my son had a report of his mri-mra stateing his tonsils are seen wrapped around the brainstem. > The report at first didn't note this and just said various things about his vein varient and that his chiari cant be really a chiari as it was a 4mm.
